Position Title: Color Stylist


Department: Finishing


Job Type: Hourly, Non-Exempt


Direct Report: VP of Operations


BASIC FUNCTION


The Color Stylist is responsible for developing and executing color, finish, and material strategies that align with brand identity, market trends, and customer expectations. This role partners closely with design, product development, upholstery, wood finishing, and merchandising teams to ensure cohesive and commercially successful furniture collections.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES


Color, Finish & Materials Development



  • Develop seasonal and long-term color palettes for upholstery, leather, wood finishes, paints, metals, and specialty materials.

  • Curate and maintain finish with brand standards and evolving trends.

  • Collaborate with designers and pattern makers to ensure color and finish intent is accurately translated into production-ready products.

  • Evaluate material samples for color consistency, durability, lightfastness, and overall aesthetic quality.


Cross-Functional Collaboration



  • Work closely with Product Development, Engineering, Finishing, and Sourcing teams to ensure feasibility, repeatability, and quality standards.

  • Support sales, merchandising, and marketing teams with color and finish expertise for catalogs, showrooms, and digital assets.

  • Assist in color approvals, strike-offs, lab dips, and production samples.


Quality & Production Support



  • Review and approve color standards for production and vendors.

  • Troubleshoot color and finish inconsistencies during sampling and production.

  • Ensure all color and finish specifications are documented and maintained accurately.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS



  • 3–7 years of experience in color styling, materials development, or finish design, preferably within furniture, interiors, or luxury goods. (Required)

  • Strong understanding of wood finishes, upholstery fabrics, leathers, paints, and specialty materials. (Required)

  • Excellent eye for color, material harmony, and detail.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills. (Required)


Work Environment



  • Manufacturing or warehouse setting

  • Exposure to fabric dust and warehouse equipment

  • May require occasional overtime based on production needs

  • Hands-on role requiring precision, craftsmanship, and adaptability
