As a HTML CSS Developer, your tasks will include the following:
- Build and maintain high-quality front-end interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with a strong emphasis on UX, maintainability, and performance.
- Translate Figma designs into pixel-perfect, responsive, and accessible UI components, ensuring design intent is preserved across devices and browsers.
- Write semantic, well-structured HTML markup that supports accessibility (WCAG), SEO best practices, and CMS-driven content structures.
- Collaborate closely with UX/UI designers to refine interactions, improve usability, and evolve shared component patterns.
- Engineer and enhance reusable UI components, contributing to a consistent and scalable front-end system.
- Design and implement clever animations, transitions, and micro-interactions that enhance usability without compromising performance.
- Continuously optimize front-end performance, including load times, rendering efficiency, and runtime behavior.
- Debug and resolve front-end issues efficiently, with a strong understanding of browser behavior and performance bottlenecks.
- Ensure the technical feasibility of UX designs, proposing alternatives or improvements where needed.
- Work alongside CMS engineers to integrate front-end components into our CMS ecosystem (Sitecore-based).
- Apply SEO, accessibility, and content-structure best practices throughout development.
- Use version control (Git) confidently in a collaborative team environment, following established branching, review, and deployment workflows.
- Stay up to date with modern front-end techniques, tools, and emerging UX patterns, bringing fresh ideas to the team.
- Proven experience as a Front-End Developer / Front-End Engineer or similar role.
- Strong command of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, with an eye for detail and craftsmanship.
- Solid understanding of semantic HTML and structured markup, and how it supports accessibility, SEO, and CMS-based architectures.
- Demonstrated experience translating design systems and Figma files into production-ready UI.
- Strong understanding of responsive design, performance optimization, and cross-browser compatibility.
- Experience building animations and micro-interactions using CSS and/or JavaScript.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with a mindset focused on continuous improvement and optimization.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design principles.
- Experience with CSS pre-processors (SASS / LESS).
- Clear, hands-on experience working with Git, including branching, pull requests, and collaborative code reviews.
- Excellent English language skills (C2 level preferred; LanguageCert C2 LTE or C2 IESOL is a plus).
- Advanced computer literacy is required. ECDL Advance level certification is desirable
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Self-driven, well-organized, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment.
- Experience with other JavaScript frameworks and libraries (e.g., Angular, Vue, React, ).
- Experience or strong interest in UX-oriented front-end engineering.
- Familiarity with CMS platforms, particularly Sitecore (strong plus), as well as SharePoint or headless CMS solutions.
- Exposure to design systems, component libraries, or front-end architecture discussions.

Working on Home Office (HO) Secure English Language Tests (SELTs)
Any person who is engaged by PeopleCert to work on the SELT service must undergo a Background Check (the results of which must be acceptable to PeopleCert and the HO) prior to commencing their SELT duties. All SELT personnel will be required to complete a declaration (provided by PeopleCert) where the existence of any criminal record and/or bankruptcy must be declared.
If working on the SELT service in the UK, background checks will include:
- A basic or enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check
- Right to Work in the UK check (including nationality, identity and place of residence)
- HO security check (Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) or Counter Terrorist Check (CTC)
- Financial background check
- Employment reference check
- If working on the SELT service anywhere in the world (outside of the UK) personnel will undergo background checks that are equivalent to those stated for the UK
