Bobcat Power, LLC is a full-service power delivery contractor operating across the United States. Our experience and expertise cover a wide range of below-grade and above-grade construction for High Voltage Electrical Substations and Transmission Lines. We operate in the power, industrial, oil & gas, and chemical markets.
Due to continued growth, Bobcat Power is seeking an experienced Substation Estimator to join our team and report directly to the Director of Estimating. This position will play a critical role in developing competitive and accurate estimates for electrical substation projects, including both below-grade civil scopes and above-grade electrical installation work.
As part of a well-established Power Delivery team in Texas, you will work in a fast-paced environment supporting some of the nation's most critical infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong estimating experience, technical knowledge of substation construction, and the ability to collaborate with operations, engineering, vendors, and clients throughout the bidding process.
Responsibilities
- Prepare complete and accurate cost estimates for high-voltage electrical substation projects.
- Review and analyze bid documents, plans, specifications, contract requirements, and project schedules.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and develop pricing for:
Earthwork and grading
Drilled piers and Flat Foundations
Grounding systems
Duct banks and underground conduit
Cable trench systems
Above Grade Conduit and Grounding
Structural steel
High Voltage Equipment & Disconnects
Control buildings
Bus and conductor systems
Rock Surface Installation
- Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Develop labor, equipment, material, and subcontract costs.
- Identify project risks, constructability concerns, and value engineering opportunities.
- Coordinate with project management and field operations teams to ensure estimate accuracy.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, client discussions, and project site visits as required.
- Prepare bid summaries, proposals, and management presentations.
- Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information.
- Support project handoff activities following successful bid awards.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of estimating experience in electrical substations, transmission, utility, industrial, or heavy civil construction.
- Strong understanding of both below-grade and above-grade substation construction scopes.
- Experience estimating drilled pier foundations, grounding systems, duct banks, conduit installation, and cable trenches.
- Experience estimating structural steel, electrical equipment installation, bus systems, and control buildings.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
- Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, labor productivity, equipment utilization, and material pricing.
- Familiarity with utility and EPC project delivery methods.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and meet strict proposal deadlines.
- Highly motivated with strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Field experience in substation construction, project management, or operations.
- Experience with HeavyBid, Timberline/Sage Estimating, Bluebeam, or similar estimating software.
- Knowledge of utility owner standards and transmission and distribution infrastructure.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
