Role Description The Assistant Director of Research and Sponsored Programs is a full-time, on-site role located in Oswego County, NY. This position supports faculty, staff, and students in developing, submitting, and managing externally funded research and sponsored program proposals. Day-to-day responsibilities include advising project teams on funding opportunities, guiding proposal development, and ensuring compliance with institutional, sponsor, and regulatory requirements. The Assistant Director collaborates with campus partners to strengthen research capacity, provides training and resources on grant writing and project administration, and helps monitor active awards for performance, reporting, and budget adherence. The role also involves contributing to strategic planning for research growth, maintaining accurate records and databases, and promoting a supportive environment for scholarship and innovation.
Qualifications
  • Candidates should possess strong Program Management and Project Management skills to coordinate multiple sponsored projects and initiatives effectively.
  • Candidates should possess solid Research and Analytical Skills to identify funding opportunities, interpret guidelines, and support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Candidates should possess advanced Proposal Writing abilities to develop clear, compliant, and competitive grant and contract applications.
  • Candidates should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • Candidates should possess experience with sponsored programs administration, including compliance, budgeting, and post-award monitoring.
  • Relevant qualifications include a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in a related field such as public administration, business, education, or the sciences.
  • Experience in higher education or research administration, familiarity with federal and state funding agencies, and proficiency with grant management systems are beneficial.
