The Senior Buyer collaborates closely with Sales, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Finance to support business objectives and reports to the Director of Supply Chain.
Senior Buyer Responsibilities
- Demonstrate sound judgment and data-driven decision-making in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Independently identify and resolve complex supply, cost, quality, and delivery issues through structured problem-solving and root cause analysis
- Serve as a role model and informal leader by promoting best practices in sourcing, negotiation, supplier management, and cross-functional collaboration
- Lead strategic sourcing initiatives to achieve annual business unit and corporate cost-savings objectives
- Develop and manage long-term agreements, consignment programs, blanket purchase agreements, and supplier contracts
- Drive supplier development, cost of quality reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives in partnership with Engineering and Quality
- Monitor market conditions, supply chain risks, and industry trends, communicating impacts and opportunities to the organization
- Support compliance with ITAR requirements, AMETEK Export/Import policies, and Small Business Administration (SBA) objectives
- Travel as required to support supplier visits, audits, sourcing activities, and training efforts
- Obtain product and service information including pricing, quality, availability, and delivery schedules
- Manage supplier relationships and maintain qualified alternate sources of supply
- Support new product introductions through supplier involvement, sourcing, and cost analysis
- Maintain accurate standard costs and support annual cost updates
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts utilizing industry best practices
- Coordinate and lead supplier meetings, documenting actions and driving follow-through
- Deliver departmental KPIs including cost savings, supplier OTD, inventory management, and supplier development
- Manage supplier transitions and sourcing changes while minimizing supply risk
- Support working capital objectives through inventory optimization and payment term negotiations
- Resolve supplier quality and performance issues, including corrective actions, returns, and credits
- Support achievement of greater than 95% on-time delivery and prevent material shortages impacting production
- Act as liaison between Supply Chain, Sales, Production, Quality, Finance, Shipping/Receiving, and Engineering on material-related matters
- Maintain expertise in ERP systems, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma methodologies
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Five or more years of progressively responsible purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment
- This is an in-person position located in Woodstock, New York; relocation support available
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Strong understanding of supply chain, procurement, manufacturing, and production control principles
- Proven ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers and manage strategic supplier relationships
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently, manage changing priorities, and deliver results under pressure
- Effective communication and collaboration skills across all levels of the organization
- Results-oriented with strong attention to detail and continuous improvement mindset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Oracle ERP
- Strong data analysis and reporting capabilities
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs

Salary Minimum: 95,000
