Since 1966, Opportunities for Otsego has focused its attention on specific problems affecting the greater Otsego County community, mobilized resources, and developed solutions to unlock opportunities for low-income individuals and disenfranchised families.

Opportunities for Otsego is seeking a financial professional to work with the Fiscal Team to perform assigned accounting functions for the agency. The Accountant must be able to adapt to changing priorities, thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace, work closely with other team members, and be willing to pitch in and help others wherever needed.

Salary Range: $63,000 - $69,000 annually

Pay Range Guide:

  • Standard Start Rate - education and experience meet job requirements
  • Advanced Start Rate - education and experience exceed job requirements (subject to approval)

Most Important Responsibilities of our Accountant:

  • Performing accounting functions related to grant reimbursement submissions, cost accounting, accounts receivable, monthly, quarterly and year-end closing, and journal entries
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting procedures and requirements of funding sources
  • Reviewing in-kind donation documentation and posting qualified contributions to general ledger, and preparing monthly agency donation report
  • Administering agency wide payroll, as needed

Requirements of our Accountant:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent combination of training and work experience
  • One year accounting experience preferred, not-for-profit experience desirable
    • NOTE: new graduates who are willing to be trained are encouraged to apply
  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles for not-for-profit agencies
  • Knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance; proficiency in computer financial applications
  • Valid, unrestricted New York State driver’s license preferred
