Construction Project Accountant

The Construction Project Accountant is responsible for managing all financial aspects of assigned construction, remodeling, restoration, and roofing projects in their market. This includes project budgeting, cost tracking, billing, reporting, and ensuring compliance with company accounting policies and procedures. The role works closely with project managers, operations leaders, and finance to maintain accurate project financials and ensure timely billing and collections.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare job set-up and job close-out upon completion
- Prepare, review, and maintain project budgets and forecasts in coordination with project managers.
- Track project costs, commitments, and change orders to ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
- Maintain project related records, including contracts & change orders.
- Process project billings and verify accuracy of supporting documentation prior to client submission.
- Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding invoices to ensure timely collection.
- Reconcile project costs and revenues monthly and assist in month-end close activities.
- Provide detailed financial analysis and reports for management on project performance and profitability.
- Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, GAAP standards, and contractual requirements.
- Assist in preparation of financial documentation for audits and project reviews.
- Collaborate with procurement and operations teams to ensure accurate coding and allocation of project expenses.
- Support process improvements and automation initiatives within the accounting function.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field desired.
- 3+ years of experience in project accounting, preferably in construction, restoration, or related industries required.
- Strong understanding of job cost accounting and project financial management principles.
- Experience with construction management or ERP systems such as Sage 300, Viewpoint, or similar preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software applications.
- Experience with AIA pay applications.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
This role is primarily office work with occasional field work. The position requires managing stressful situations and regular use of a personal cell phone.
