Job Title: Newbuilding Estimator - Shipyard
New Build Experience Mandatory
Job Summary:
The Newbuilding Estimator is responsible for developing accurate cost estimates for new vessel construction projects within the shipyard. This includes assessing technical specifications, analyzing shipbuilding drawings, and preparing detailed budgets for labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment. The Estimator plays a key role in competitive bidding, cost control, and project planning.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Extract and structure equipment lists, BOQs, and BOMs from vessel specifications, drawings, and client tender documents.
- Build and maintain ROM and detailed cost estimation workbooks covering steel, equipment, systems, and yard overhead.
- Source and validate vendor and market pricing for major equipment packages.
- Reconcile discrepancies between comparable costing files and flag gaps to the Head of New Builds & Proposals.
- Support preparation of vessel spec fact sheets, project schedules, and Project Execution Plans (PEPs).
- Track client and shipyard comments/non-conformances through to resolution in shared trackers.
- Assist with EPC bid workbook construction across multi-bill BOQ structures.
Authority and Accountability
- Accountable for the accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery of assigned work within the role scope.
- Escalate technical, commercial, cost or documentation discrepancies to the reporting manager.

HSE, IMS and Compliance Responsibilities
- Comply with the company Integrated Management System and applicable ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 requirements.
- Follow approved HSE, quality, security and confidentiality requirements during all assigned activities.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, quality risks and compliance concerns without delay.
- Maintain integrity and proper control of company, client, proposal and project documentation and records.

Minimum Requirements

Requirement
Education
Diploma/Degree in Marine/Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Quantity Surveying.
Experience
2+ years experience in shipbuilding cost estimation, quantity surveying, or newbuild proposals.
Certifications
Not specifically stated in the Job Description.
Technical
Strong Excel modelling; familiarity with AACE estimating classes is an advantage; working knowledge of marine equipment specifications.
