This onsite position supports a mission-driven Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) dedicated to providing quality healthcare to the communities we serve. The Assistant Controller plays a key role in financial reporting, grant management, compliance, cost analysis, and maintaining accurate financial records.

Key Responsibilities
The Assistant Controller will support the Controller and CFO in maintaining accurate financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring compliance with accounting, grant, and regulatory requirements.
Core Accounting & Financial Operations
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Maintain general ledger accuracy, supporting schedules, and financial documentation.
- Assist with preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements, internal reports, and management-level financial summaries.
- Support grant accounting activities, including tracking, reconciliation, reporting, and compliance with funding requirements.
- Maintain deferred revenue schedules and support proper monthly revenue recognition.
- Collaborate with operational departments to ensure grant deliverables and financial compliance requirements are met.
- Assist with UDS financial reporting, service-line analysis, and HRSA-related reporting requirements.
- Support preparation of annual federal cost reports through data collection, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Assist with cost allocation reporting and maintaining accurate financial data by service line and funding source.
- Support cash management activities.
- Assist with bank reconciliations, fixed asset schedules, and related accounting documentation.
- Cross-train and provide support in areas including Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Cash Posting to ensure department coverage and continuity.
- Assist with external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to information requests.
- Support required federal, state, and local financial reporting activities.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance, confidentiality, and adherence to internal controls and accounting policies.
- Partner with Finance, Billing, Operations, and clinical teams to support organizational goals.
- Communicate financial information clearly to non-financial staff and department leaders.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and enhance reporting accuracy.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller or CFO.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of accrual accounting principles and GAAP.
- Experience preparing and analyzing monthly financial statements and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, reporting, and data analysis.
- Experience preparing financial reports and supporting audit requests.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial staff and department leaders.
- Healthcare, nonprofit, governmental, or grant-funded accounting experience.
- Understanding of healthcare revenue cycle processes.
- FQHC experience.
- Grant accounting and compliance experience.
- Understanding of healthcare reimbursement methodologies, including PPS, capitation, and wrap-around payments.
- Experience with UDS reporting, HRSA requirements, and federal grant reporting.
- QuickBooks Enterprise Desktop experience.
