Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Field Cost Engineer to support cost control, analysis, and reporting activities for a major LNG construction project. This role will be responsible for monitoring project costs, analyzing trends and variances, maintaining budgets, and developing cost-control strategies to support successful project execution.
The ideal candidate will have strong cost engineering experience within large-scale EPC or construction projects, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work closely with field engineering, construction, and project management teams. This is a hands-on field position requiring regular engagement with active construction activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish, maintain, and monitor project budgets, cost forecasts, change management, and cost performance throughout project execution.
- Prepare and analyze cost reports, variance analyses, quantity reports, craft labor reporting, and other periodic project cost reports.
- Develop and present cost studies using historical data, statistical analysis, cost comparisons, and quantity analysis.
- Identify cost trends, potential issues, and opportunities for improvement, providing recommendations and mitigation strategies to project management.
- Develop and analyze unit labor-hour and pricing data for specific disciplines or areas of specialty.
- Analyze craft productivity and project performance, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and control costs.
- Work closely with field engineering, construction, project controls, and other discipline teams to coordinate cost-related activities.
- Participate in field construction activities, including site walkdowns, progress reviews, safety observations, and verification of installed quantities.
- Support change management by identifying potential cost impacts and helping develop appropriate mitigation and recovery strategies.
- Apply established Rules of Credit and earning methodologies to accurately track progress based on installed quantities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or international equivalent with 8–10 years of relevant experience, or 12–14 years of relevant industry experience in lieu of a degree.
- Experience in cost engineering, project controls, cost estimating, cost control, and cost analysis within large-scale construction or EPC projects.
- Experience supporting major industrial, energy, LNG, or infrastructure projects is preferred.
Required Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of EPC contract structures and Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) on large-scale projects.
- Advanced knowledge of construction cost control and budget monitoring at the commodity level.
- Experience analyzing craft labor productivity and developing performance improvement recommendations.
- Strong understanding of change management, including identifying potential cost issues and developing mitigation strategies.
- Knowledge of Rules of Credit and installed-quantity earning methodologies.
- Ability to coordinate cost activities across multiple engineering and construction disciplines while managing competing priorities.
- Proficiency with cost management and project controls software, including Ecosys, as well as Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of engineering and construction management principles gained through formal education and/or practical field experience.
