As Associate Counsel, you will provide substantive legal services to clients while maintaining positive, confidential client relationships through effective consultation and communication. In this role, you will primarily support the Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute (HVTI) as research activities, global collaborations, and regulatory requirements continue to expand. You will play a critical role in improving contract turnaround times, maintaining competitiveness for high value clinical trials, reducing reliance on outside counsel, and ensuring timely patient access to innovative treatments. Working independently or under the guidance of senior attorneys, you will support a wide range of legal matters across the organization. Primary responsibilities will include reviewing research agreements, including, but not limited to, clinical trial agreements, collaboration agreements, research service agreements, data use agreements, grant agreements, and the like as well as regulatory support for issues related thereto.

A caregiver in this position works remotely from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Maintain expertise and advise appropriate department members regarding legal developments within areas of expertise.
  • Actively seek out opportunities to maintain compliance within those areas of the law.
  • Provide timely responses to requests for legal advice for assigned areas.
  • Identify and implement measures to bring effective legal services to the organization.
  • Collaborate and provide leadership on projects and teams within the Law Department and the organization.
  • Serve as a dedicated attorney supporting HVTI, with a primary focus on reviewing research agreements and clinical trial agreements.
  • Responsible for reviewing a high volume of contracts—approximately 200–400 per year.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from ABA accredited law school
  • Two to five years of attorney and/or comparable direct experience in legal specialty - individuals with more relevant experience in research contracting are encouraged to apply.
  • Member in good standing of the state bar or ability to become a member of the state bar within a reasonable period of time
  • Exercises independent judgment and discretion to perform legal services
  • Primary experience in reviewing contracts (ex. research contracts, general contacts, supply chain contracts, etc.)
  • Ability to take appropriate action in a stressful environment

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Experience reviewing clinical research agreements
  • Regulatory experience, including exposure to HIPAA, GDPR and similar data privacy regulations.
  • General knowledge or experience related to FDA regulations
  • Prior involvement or understanding of human subject research and IRB (Institutional Review Board) processes

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
  • Ability to operate a computer, audio visual and other office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information, including the ability to deliver training in person and virtually.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum Annual Salary: $112,110.00

Maximum Annual Salary: $170,955.00

A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set and education.
