About The Position
As an Estimator – Change Order at Power Design, you’ll be responsible for preparing accurate, timely estimates and cost analyses for project change orders across multiple disciplines. This position plays a key role in maintaining project profitability, supporting operations, and ensuring that change-related work complies with Power Design’s standards of excellence. Working from our state-of-the-art headquarters in St. Petersburg, Florida, this role supports preconstruction and project teams by managing pricing adjustments, verifying scope changes, and ensuring financial accuracy through detailed estimating. You’ll work collaboratively across teams to drive accuracy, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Position Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed and accurate change order estimates for electrical, low voltage, mechanical, and specialty systems.
- Review design and construction documents to identify changes in scope and quantify cost impacts.
- Utilize estimating software and internal databases to generate cost projections, material takeoffs, and labor analysis.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to confirm constructability, labor needs, and project conditions.
- Perform pricing and cost analysis for materials, subcontractors, and labor to ensure accuracy and profitability.
- Draft and review bid documents, ensuring consistency with Power Design’s standards and client requirements.
- Support preconstruction and field operations by ensuring all change order estimates are completed in a timely, professional manner.
- Provide recommendations for cost-saving measures and process improvements.
- Ensure documentation accuracy and version control in estimating platforms.
- Participate in onboarding and mentorship for junior estimators and associate team members.
- Demonstrate and uphold Power Design’s core values of integrity, accountability, teamwork, innovation, and growth.
- Bachelor’s degree or Journeyman’s license (or industry equivalent) plus 2+ years of relevant estimating experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Bluebeam or other PDF-editing software.
- Experience using estimating software (such as ConEST or Accubid) required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to accuracy and detail.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments and clients.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of financial and operational drivers that impact project success.
