The Opportunity:
The Commercial Lead at PiPiper is responsible for protecting PiPiper’s commercial position across the full delivery lifecycle, from framework and contract drafting through to live project delivery, payment governance, and commercial close-out.
The role acts as PiPiper’s commercial authority for contractor engagement, contract governance, procurement controls, commercial compliance, and change management across the Fibre Network programme.
This includes ownership of commercial frameworks, contract drafting support, payment governance, variations, commercial risk management, and validation of contractor claims against completed works, GIS records, and site conditions.
The Commercial Lead works closely with Network Delivery Manager, Project Engineer, and the Fibre Network Engineering Lead to ensure commercial decisions align with delivery reality, contractual entitlement, and PiPiper’s long-term infrastructure objectives.
What You'll Do
Contract Strategy and Commercial Protection
- Support development and protection of PiPiper’s commercial and contractual position across all delivery contracts and frameworks.
- Review and govern contract terms, schedules of rates, KPIs, compensation mechanisms, and change provisions.
- Identify commercial risks, gaps, and exposure during contract drafting and negotiation.
- Ensure contractual controls properly protect PiPiper during live delivery.
Commercial Governance and Delivery Control
- Act as PiPiper’s commercial lead across contractor delivery activities.
- Govern commercial compliance across all projects and delivery partners.
- Ensure commercial approvals, commitments, and payments follow delegated authority and governance requirements.
- Challenge unsupported claims, poor commercial practices, and uncontrolled cost exposure.
Procurement and Framework Management
- Support procurement and tender evaluation activities for delivery packages and frameworks.
- Review commercial submissions, rates, assumptions, and pricing structures.
- Manage commercial aspects of contractor onboarding and framework implementation.
- Maintain commercial consistency across suppliers, contractors, and delivery regions.
QS, Valuation and Commercial Verification
- Govern commercial verification and valuation processes across all projects and frameworks.
- Oversee validation of contractor claims against GIS data, drawings, as-built records, and completed works.
- Provide commercial challenge on disputed quantities, valuations, and entitlement.
- Review and endorse commercial payment recommendations prior to approval where required.
Variations, Claims and Commercial Risk
- Govern commercial approval of variations, compensation events, and contractor claims.
- Ensure appropriate commercial controls and governance are applied to all instructed changes.
- Identify and escalate emerging commercial risks, trends, and exposure.
- Support dispute avoidance through strong contract administration, records, and commercial governance.
Commercial Reporting and Forecasting
- Monitor contractor commercial performance, cost trends, and forecast exposure.
- Monitor and challenge cost forecasts, trends, and commercial exposure across projects and frameworks.
- Provide accurate commercial reporting, forecasting, and risk visibility to management.
What You'll Bring
- Commercial qualified.
- Experience in civils, utilities, or telecoms delivery environments.
- Comfortable interrogating GIS data, and drawings to support commercial governance and validation.
- Confident reviewing contractor entitlement, site progress, and commercial claims against delivered works.
- Strong contract knowledge and commercial judgement.
- Detail-focused with a strong commercial governance and risk-management mindset.
