Position Overview
A top manufacturing leader is seeking an experienced Dockmaster to lead and coordinate the company’s complex waterfront and operational activities. This position will lead docking evolutions, oversee maintenance and certification programs, conduct vessel displacement analysis, develop docking and blocking plans, and coordinate waterfront personnel and equipment. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to adapt in a multi-system, deadline-oriented environment, with direct management/supervision of assigned employees.
This position will be located in the greater Jacksonville, FL area. Domestic travel may be required.
Essential Functions
- Direct and manage dry dock and marine travel lift operations, including flooding and pumping evolutions, vessel positioning, displacement verification, lift operations, and coordination of docking crews, tugs, and waterfront services to ensure safe and efficient vessel movements
- Oversee inspection, maintenance, and certification compliance of floating dry dock assets, machinery, tanks, valves, and pumps, including management and documentation of the waterfront preventative maintenance program
- Develop and execute docking plans, including calculating vessel displacement, reviewing prints and line plans, designing block layouts, supervising block construction and setting, and coordinating with Engineering to establish blocking and pumping sequences
- Maintain accurate operational records and ensure effective communication, including logging docking/undocking events, drafts, and pumping sequences; issuing call orders; participating in docking conferences; and communicating technical information clearly with crews, customers, and towing operators.

Requirements
Security & Compliance
- Must have experience using time and attendance tracking software
- Must possess strong mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and apply calculations in operational settings
- Must have working knowledge of applicable maritime standards, including ABS, USCG, NEC, and IEEE 45 requirements
- Must have strong Microsoft Office Suite computer skills
- Must have strong organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills
- Must have ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor
- Must adhere to ISO and OSHAS policies and have high values for safety awareness
- Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Company policies, procedures, and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; employee recognition and discipline; resolving employee concerns; and developing employees with the skills, competencies, and values needed to achieve Company goals.
Education and Experience
- Associate degree, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required
- 5+ years of shipbuilding and docking crew experience required, with at least 3 of those years spent managing docking operations
- Must be NAVSEA Dockmaster certified
Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing job duties, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand or walk; use hands and arms to grasp, handle, manipulate, or feel objects and controls; stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch; and speak or hear. The employee may lift and/or move up to 35lbs regularly and up to 50lbs occasionally. Work is performed both inside and outside in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, and arid climates. Frequent use of PPE is required to minimize noise exposure, moving machinery, weather elements, and other potential hazards, including the risk of injury.
