About Us

At Cloudflare, we are on a mission to help build a better Internet. Today the company runs one of the world’s largest networks that powers millions of websites and other Internet properties for customers ranging from individual bloggers to SMBs to Fortune 500 companies. Cloudflare protects and accelerates any Internet application online without adding hardware, installing software, or changing a line of code. Internet properties powered by Cloudflare all have web traffic routed through its intelligent global network, which gets smarter with every request. As a result, they see significant improvement in performance and a decrease in spam and other attacks. Cloudflare was named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top Company Cultures list and ranked among the World’s Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company.

At Cloudflare, we’re not looking for people who wait for a polished roadmap; we’re looking for the builders who see the cracks in the Internet that everyone else has simply learned to live with. We value candidates who have the instinct to spot a "normalized" problem and the AI-native curiosity to create a solution using the latest tools. Our culture is built on iteration, leveraging AI to ship faster today to make it better tomorrow, while ensuring that every improvement, no matter how small, is shared across the team to lift everyone up. If you’re the type of person who values curiosity over bureaucracy, and that AI is a partner in solving tough problems to keep the Internet moving forward, you’ll fit right in.

About the Role

Cloudflare's FinTech Engineering team builds and runs the software and systems that make Cloudflare run efficiently and enable our customers and partners to do business with us.

This role sits at the intersection of billing systems, fraud, and operations. Millions of customers self-serve onto Cloudflare, which means our billing stack processes an enormous volume of transactions and is a constant target for abuse. Cloudflare also ships new products constantly, and every one of them has to bill correctly and land correctly in revenue accounting. When something breaks, when someone tries to game it, or when a new product is about to go live, you are the person who makes sure we get it right. You will work with engineers, finance, support, trust and safety, and product.

This is a role with real, visible impact. The problems here are unsolved rather than already scoped for you, the surface area is large, and the work translates directly into revenue protected, fraud prevented, launches that go smoothly, and manual work that stops existing. You will get exposure to the full quote to cash stack, real ownership from day one, very little hand holding, and the opportunity to leave the systems and processes meaningfully better than you found them. If you want to point at something a year from now and say you built that, this is that kind of role.

Day-to-day responsibilities include

  • Investigate fraud and payment abuse: Dig into suspicious signup, payment, and usage patterns. Trace how bad actors got through, quantify the impact, and work with Data Science to close the gap to turn one off investigations into repeatable detection.
  • Own root cause analysis for billing issues: When invoices, subscriptions, entitlements, taxation, or payments misbehave, you find the real root cause and make sure engineering fixes it accordingly. You quantify the impact, so engineering knows what to prioritize.
  • Make new product integrations bill correctly: You own billing correctness for new product launches, from payment till revenue accounting. Define and run the end to end tests, catch the edge cases before launch, and advise engineering on the implementation.
  • Own month end reconciliation: Investigate differences between billing and accounting systems, explain every variance, and log the root causes so it does not come back next month.
  • Design scalable solutions to operational problems: Replace manual work and recurring escalations with automation, AI agents, or better system design.
  • Build your own tooling: Write the SQL to answer the question. Write the script to resolve 1,000 accounts instead of 1. Use AI tooling across analysis, investigation, and documentation.
  • Run programs, not just tickets: The surface area here is wide and you get real influence over where the effort goes. Pick the highest impact problem area, break it down, line up the stakeholders, and drive it to a measurable outcome.

Required skills, knowledge, and experience

  • Experience at a high scale technology business, ideally with a self serve motion
  • A track record of owning ambiguous problems end to end and driving them to a measurable outcome
  • Strong SQL proficiency and comfort working with large datasets
  • Familiarity with Python for scripting and light automation
  • Solid understanding of how systems integrate: APIs, webhooks, and event driven flows
  • Hands on with AI tooling in your daily workflow
  • Program management and process improvement experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Investigative and detail oriented, you want the actual root cause rather than a plausible one
  • A bias to go straight to the data and drive problems to resolution without waiting for direction
  • Analytical, you can tell an anecdote from a pattern and quantify the difference
  • Systems thinking, you fix the class of problem rather than the single instance
  • Comfort with ambiguity and shifting priorities

Bonus Points

  • Experience working with billing or subscription systems (Stripe, Zuora, or similar)
  • Experience with fraud, payment abuse, chargebacks, or trust and safety type investigations
  • Experience running end to end validation across multiple systems
  • Familiarity with the finance side of quote to cash

What Makes Cloudflare Special?

We’re not just a highly ambitious, large-scale technology company. We’re a highly ambitious, large-scale technology company with a soul. Fundamental to our mission to help build a better Internet is protecting the free and open Internet.

Project Galileo: Since 2014, we've equipped more than 2,400 journalism and civil society organizations in 111 countries with powerful tools to defend themselves against attacks that would otherwise censor their work, technology already used by Cloudflare’s enterprise customers--at no cost.

Athenian Project: In 2017, we created the Athenian Project to ensure that state and local governments have the highest level of protection and reliability for free, so that their constituents have access to election information and voter registration. Since the project, we've provided services to more than 425 local government election websites in 33 states.

1.1.1.1: We released 1.1.1.1 to help fix the foundation of the Internet by building a faster, more secure and privacy-centric public DNS resolver. This is available publicly for everyone to use - it is the first consumer-focused service Cloudflare has ever released. Here’s the deal - we don’t store client IP addresses never, ever. We will continue to abide by our privacy commitment and ensure that no user data is sold to advertisers or used to target consumers.
