Distribution Center Shipping / Receiving Clerk

A Shipping and Receiving Clerk manages the movement of goods in and out of a business, ensuring accurate documentation, inventory control, and timely delivery.

Role And Responsibilities

Shipping and Receiving Clerks are responsible for both outbound and inbound shipments. Their duties include preparing and sending orders, receiving deliveries, verifying shipment contents, and maintaining accurate records of all transactions. They ensure that items are properly packed, labeled, and in good condition, and they document any damages or discrepancies. Clerks coordinate with carriers, warehouse teams, and internal departments to maintain smooth material flow and prevent delays.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders, packing slips and invoices.
  • Maintain shipping logs, documentation, and digital inventory records.
  • Inspect shipments for damage and report issues promptly,
  • Communicate with customers or internal teams effectively and promptly.
  • Receive Purchase Orders for Raw Materials into Just Foods
  • Print Allergen Labels for Raw Materials as needed
  • Printing Barcode Labels for Raw Materials as needed
  • Assist Inventory Control on Inventory Counts

Requirements

Qualifications And Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent; prior shipping/receiving experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including inventory management software, current distribution center technology and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational, detail-oriented, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical capability to handle manual tasks safely and efficiently
  • Ability to operate in a highly active distribution center environment.
  • Accuracy and timeliness of duties.

Work Environment

Shipping and Receiving Clerks typically work in warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, or retail environments. The role involves physical labor, including lifting, carrying, and moving items, sometimes over 50 pounds, and may require standing for long periods. Protective gear and adherence to safety protocols are often required. Some positions may require overtime or weekend work depending on business needs.
