The Shipping and Receiving Coordinator is responsible for managing the flow of raw materials, components, and finished goods within a manufacturing environment. This role ensures accurate receiving of materials, timely shipment of finished products, proper inventory control, and compliance with production schedules and quality standards.
Roles And Responsibilities
- Receive and inspect raw materials, parts, and supplies against purchase orders and bills of lading
- Verify quantities and inspect for damage or quality issues
- Coordinate with Quality Control for material inspections when required
- Accurately enter receipts into ERP/MRP systems
- Label and route materials to appropriate areas
- Prepare finished goods for shipment according to customer specifications
- Generate packing slips, bills of lading, and other shipping documentation
- Coordinate freight carriers (LTL, FTL, parcel, international)
- Ensure shipments aligned with production schedules
- Verify product counts, packaging requirements, and special handling instructions
- Maintain accurate inventory records in ERP/MRP system
- Assist with cycle counts and physical inventory audits
- Monitor stock levels and communicate shortages to Purchasing and Production
- Stage materials for production runs
- Support lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards
- Follow hazardous material handling procedures if applicable
- Maintain organized and clean shipping/receiving areas
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2–3 years of shipping/receiving experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., D365, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar)
- Knowledge of freight terms, bills of lading, and international shipping documentation (preferred)
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs. and work in a production/warehouse setting
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Understanding of production workflows
- Inventory control and material handling knowledge
- Time management and ability to meet deadlines
- Effective communication with production, purchasing, and quality teams
