Technical Set Designer – Competitive Salary - Bristol

Can you take an ambitious 3D concept and turn it into a practical, production-ready build? Do you understand how materials, fabrication methods and technical planning come together to create memorable live experiences?

The role

This is a hands-on technical design role where you will help bring creative ideas into the real world.

You will translate concepts, renders and 3D visuals into detailed drawings and clear build information for experiential campaigns, festivals, retail installations, pop-ups and touring activations.

From selecting materials and defining fabrication methods to planning installation and transport, you will help ensure every project is practical, durable and ready for production.

You will work closely with creative, production, workshop and logistics teams from the initial idea through to final delivery.

About our company

Magic Number is an experiential activation, brand partnerships and production agency.

From The Hub, our 32,000 sq ft production facility in Bristol, we create large-scale campaigns across festivals, live events, retail environments and pop-ups.

Our in-house team manages creative strategy, technical design, fabrication, logistics and on-site delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed construction drawings, assembly plans and technical packs
  • Create material schedules, fixing lists and CNC cutting outputs
  • Prepare accurate material take-offs and purchasing requirements
  • Recommend build methods based on quality, cost and timescales
  • Support CNC operations and digital manufacturing processes
  • Plan fabrication sequences, labour requirements and installation methods
  • Consider transport, on-site assembly and long-term reusability
  • Improve production efficiency and reduce material waste
  • Ensure technical outputs meet health and safety requirements

The Benefits

  • 28 days’ annual leave, including bank holidays
  • Additional holiday based on length of service
  • Paid Christmas shutdown
  • NEST pension contributions
  • Gym membership contribution of up to £15 per month
  • Private medical insurance after probation
  • Team socials and end-of-season events
  • Festival tickets where available

The person

  • You will have three to five years’ experience within technical production, set building or fabrication.
  • Strong SketchUp and CAD skills are essential, alongside knowledge of CNC machinery, Vectric or VCarve, materials and construction techniques.
  • You will be practical, organised and comfortable managing several projects at once. Experience of laser cutting, 3D printing or experiential production would be advantageous.
  • This is an on-site role at The Hub in Bristol, working Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Occasional weekend work may be required during busy periods.
