Job Description
What you can expect
Transport Coordination & Scheduling
- Schedule and coordinate daily cartage movements for import and export shipments.
- Arrange container collections and deliveries to/from ports, depots, warehouses, and customer premises.
- Monitor container availability, VBS (Vehicle Booking System) bookings, and port cut-offs.
- Ensure timely pick-up and delivery in line with customer and operational deadlines.
- Allocate jobs to company drivers or subcontract transport providers.
- Coordinate port bookings and manage delivery time slots.
- Ensure compliance with NZTA transport regulations and road safety requirements.
- Monitor container detention and demurrage timelines.
- Ensure accurate handling of bonded or uncleared cargo in line with NZ Customs requirements.
- Act as key liaison between drivers, warehouse teams, freight operators, and customers.
- Provide updates on delivery status, delays, or issues.
- Escalate operational disruptions and resolve transport-related issues promptly.
- Maintain strong working relationships with port operators and transport subcontractors.
- Ensure accurate job entry and updates within the transport or freight operating system.
- Verify delivery instructions and documentation prior to dispatch.
- Monitor Proof of Delivery (POD) collection and system upload.
- Ensure correct cost allocation and transport charging.
- Monitor transport costs and assist in maintaining profitability.
- Track driver productivity and utilisation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the transport function.

EssentialSkills & Experience Required
- Diploma or similar in Freight Forwarding or Logistics from a recognized NZ institute.
- Strong understanding of NZ port operations and container movements
- Knowledge of VBS systems and port cut-off requirements
- Strong organisational and scheduling skills
- Ability to manage multiple daily transport movements
- Strong communication skills
- Knowledge of NZTA transport regulations
- Experience coordinating subcontract transport providers
- Familiarity with freight forwarding operating systems
- Understanding of bonded cargo handling
- Highly organised and detail-oriented
- Able to work under time pressure
- Strong problem-solving skills
