Job Description
Overall Purpose and Objective of Position
This position loads and unloads products at a soybean crushing and biodiesel plant. Primary functions are to load trucks and railcars with product or unload beans in receiving whichever is assigned. Responsible for complying with all applicable Company grade incoming grain; determine whether grain is of acceptable quality and rejects those loads not meeting Company standards. Also responsible for complying with all applicable Company and government regulations.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Upholds all LDC Policy and standards. Abides by all Work rules. Complete and maintain all training associated with the position, and all new criteria that becomes available in the future required by LDC
- Loads final product on to trucks and railcars to ensure timely delivery of all handled products.
- Unloads grain trucks and railcars as needed to meet the plant’s daily production schedules.
- Inspects material handling equipment and performs routine adjustments and minor maintenance as needed.
- Oversee and operate the meal loading and receiving area by HMI as well as make any changes required in the field.
- Reports any equipment issues to Shift Leaders in a timely fashion.
- Ensures compliance with Company safety rules and wears proper personal protective equipment (PPE) as required in fulfillment of assigned responsibilities.
- Continuous progression is expected of all employees, until maximum progression is achieved in each role
- Able to work at heights
- Ensures work area is kept free from safety hazards which require regular bending and occasional lifting. Fully responsible for housekeeping as directed by management of the Prep/Ext building and grounds of the entire facility (including but not limited to control room trash, snow removal, etc.)
- Performs small maintenance related task such as patching holes, changing shear pins, and clearing out plugged equipment)
- Completes tasks assigned by the Superintendents and Shift Supervisors
- Actively participates in Shift/Team activities including complying with best practices, standard operating procedures, development and maintenance and continuous improvement efforts.
- Actively participates in job-related training as required.
- Attains Level 1 Rail training to assist in basic railyard functions as directed by level progressions
- Other duties as assigned
- Production machinery and operating equipment with dials, gauges and controls.
- Use of computer for entering data into electronic data system and control operating equipment.
- Use of occupational health and safety testing equipment (e.g., air monitors) in compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Experience
Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses
Basic qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED.
- Technical degree
- 4 years of experience in an industrial environment
- Experience in the operation of skid loaders, front-end loaders and/or forklift.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures.
- Ability to operate machinery and computer systems while maintaining compliance with regulatory safety requirements, e.g., OSHA (including PSM), EPA, USDA, ISO 9000 and B-Q-9000.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders as well as work at heights; manage confined space entry, withstand extended periods of walking and standing; move manufacturing materials, products and equipment of 50 pounds or more which requires bending and lifting.
- Mechanical aptitude, effective communication skills, basic math and fundamental PC skills.
