You will act as the operational leader for the shipping team, providing day-to-day guidance, resolving operational issues, promoting continuous improvement, and fostering a safe and collaborative working environment.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- Lead and coordinate the daily activities of the shipping team to achieve Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Morale (SQDCM) objectives.
- Organize workloads according to operational priorities and shipping schedules.
- Support, coach and develop team members through day-to-day guidance and performance discussions.
- Act as the first point of contact for operational issues and help resolve team conflicts in collaboration with the department manager.
- Monitor team capacity and ensure resources are effectively allocated.
- Plan and coordinate packaging and shipping activities based on customer priorities and production schedules.
- Work closely with Production, Planning, Warehouse and other support functions to ensure shipments are completed on time.
- Monitor daily shipping performance and react quickly to unexpected changes or operational disruptions.
- Participate in shop floor activities when required, including packaging, inventory, material handling, cycle counts and 5S initiatives.
- Support the design and implementation of appropriate packaging solutions to ensure products are transported safely.
- Prepare requests for quotations for special packaging solutions and coordinate requirements with the Purchasing department.
- Manage standard packaging materials and support subcontracted packaging activities when required.
- Support shipping administration activities, including transport orders, packing lists and shipping documentation.
- Assist with inventory management and coordinate inventory activities related to shipping materials.
- Ensure ERP transactions and operational documentation are completed accurately.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and simplify processes.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
- Ensure compliance with established procedures and company safety standards.
- Champion safe working practices in an environment involving heavy loads, lifting equipment and packaging tools.
- Logistics education or equivalent professional experience in logistics, warehouse or shipping operations.
- Several years of experience in logistics or warehouse operations, ideally within a manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience supervising or coordinating a team, or strong leadership potential with a desire to develop into a people leader.
- Good understanding of shipping, packaging and warehouse processes.
- Experience working with ERP systems (Oracle experience is an advantage but not essential).
- Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Outlook and Word.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment and manage changing priorities.
- Strong safety awareness and commitment to operational excellence.
- CACES 3 certification (training can be supported by the company if required).
- CACES 4 and 5 certifications.
- Overhead crane authorization.
- Experience in Continuous Improvement initiatives (5S, Lean or similar).
- Experience working in cross-functional manufacturing environments.

You are comfortable making decisions, encouraging collaboration and creating a positive team environment while maintaining high standards of safety and performance.
