We're looking for a highly organised Sample Handler to manage the flow of products and materials through our testing laboratories. This role could be ideal for someone from a warehouse, logistics, stores, inventory control, goods-in/goods-out, or materials management background who enjoys keeping operations running smoothly and ensuring products are in the right place at the right time.
Unlike a traditional warehouse role, you'll be responsible for managing high-value customer products that support the testing and certification of construction products used in buildings around the world. You'll work closely with engineers, laboratory teams, and project engineers, giving you exposure to a unique technical environment while applying the transferable skills you've developed in logistics, stores, or warehouse operations.
Responsibilities
What You'll Be Doing
As the owner of our sample management process, you'll be responsible for coordinating the receipt, storage, movement, tracking, and dispatch of customer products throughout the testing lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include:
- Receiving and booking in samples and test products delivered to the laboratory.
- Coordinating deliveries, collections, and dispatch of customer products.
- Maintaining accurate sample records using databases and Microsoft Office applications.
- Tracking samples throughout the testing process, ensuring products are correctly labelled, identified, and stored.
- Working closely with engineering, laboratory, project management, and shipping teams to ensure samples are available when needed.
- Conducting inventory checks and maintaining organised storage areas.
- Investigating and resolving issues relating to lost, damaged, or missing samples.
- Supporting audits and assessments by maintaining accurate records and documentation.
- Producing reports and key performance metrics relating to sample management activities.
- Maintaining laboratory procedures, SharePoint content, and process documentation.
- Promoting continuous improvement and identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency.
- Ensuring all activities are carried out in line with quality, safety, and accreditation requirements.

- Experience managing stock, inventory, materials, or customer products in a warehouse, logistics, or operational environment.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to accurately track and manage multiple items and activities.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and ideally SharePoint.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence working with internal customers and stakeholders.
- A strong commitment to health, safety, and quality standards.
- Experience operating material-handling equipment such as forklifts.
- A valid Fork Lift Truck (FLT) licence.
- Possessing a Telehandler licence would be very beneficial
- The ability to safely use hand tools and small power tools such as saws and drills.
- A proactive and detail-oriented approach to problem solving and process improvement.
- Experience carrying out stock counts, inventory audits, or warehouse housekeeping activities.
- Experience working within regulated, quality-driven, or compliance-focused environments.
- This is an active, hands-on role and will involve:
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Reaching, bending, and lifting.
- Moving and carrying products and materials weighing up to 60 lbs (27kg).
- Working both indoors and outdoors across laboratory and storage areas.
