The Opportunity
Hitachi Energy's Grid Integration business is seeking a Civil Design Project Lead / Civil Design Technical Lead to support the delivery of large-scale HVDC and energy infrastructure projects. In this role, you will coordinate civil engineering activities across the full project lifecycle, helping transform project concepts into critical facilities that support power transmission, renewable energy integration, and the modernization of electrical networks. Working within an international and multidisciplinary environment, you will collaborate with project managers, construction teams, engineering disciplines, and external design partners to deliver technically sound, safe, and high-quality solutions. Depending on project needs and your background, you may contribute to both project execution and tender activities, helping shape solutions from early planning through final delivery. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex infrastructure projects, influence engineering outcomes, support continuous improvement efforts, and contribute to the technologies that help strengthen and expand the power grid.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Coordinate civil design activities throughout the lifecycle of major HVDC and energy infrastructure projects.
- Support project execution and, when applicable, tender activities for domestic and international opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with customer requirements, contractual commitments, industry standards, and engineering practices.
- Manage procurement activities and provide technical oversight of external civil engineering and design service providers.
- Monitor project scope, schedules, budgets, and engineering deliverables to support successful project outcomes.
- Represent Civil Design in BIM coordination activities and multidisciplinary design reviews.
- Review and approve civil engineering calculations, drawings, models, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by sharing knowledge, improving processes, and contributing to operational development activities.
- Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
Your Background
- Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 8 years of civil engineering experience, ideally within large industrial, infrastructure, energy, or construction projects.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Structural Engineer (S.E.) license in at least one state, with the ability to obtain licensure in additional states through reciprocity/comity.
- Knowledge of applicable engineering codes and standards, including IBC, ASCE, AISC, ACI, IEEE, NFPA, and NESC standards.
- Experience working in Engineering Procurement (EP) and/or Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) project environments.
- Familiarity with civil engineering design principles, interdisciplinary coordination, site development, and stormwater management.
- Experience managing engineering interfaces, external design consultants, and technical deliverables.
- Ability to work effectively within global, multidisciplinary, and remote project teams.
