As a U.S. Navy Surface Warfare Officer, you will take on meaningful leadership responsibilities from the beginning of your career. You will lead Sailors, manage advanced shipboard systems, and help operate some of the Navy’s most capable surface ships.

Surface Warfare Officers serve aboard destroyers, cruisers, amphibious ships, aircraft carriers, and other vessels supporting missions around the world. Whether navigating international waters, coordinating complex operations, supporting humanitarian relief, or working alongside allied forces, you will play a direct role in protecting national security and maintaining global maritime presence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead Sailors and Manage Teams
• Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of enlisted Sailors and officers. Build a disciplined, mission-focused team while managing performance, training, and professional growth.
• Operate Navy Ships
• Help oversee navigation, ship handling, operational readiness, and the safe execution of daily missions aboard Navy surface ships.
• Plan and Execute Missions
• Coordinate naval operations involving navigation, logistics, communications, warfare planning, and collaboration with other Navy units and allied forces.
• Manage Advanced Systems
• Oversee sophisticated weapons, radar, sensor, communication, engineering, and defensive systems used during routine operations and high-pressure situations.
• Maintain Mission Readiness
• Lead drills, inspections, certifications, emergency response exercises, and casualty-control training to ensure the ship and crew are prepared for any mission.
• Oversee Maintenance and Logistics
• Work with engineering and technical teams to maintain the ship’s machinery, power systems, equipment, and overall operational capability.
• Serve Around the World
• Participate in global deployments supporting national defense, maritime security, multinational exercises, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and other critical missions.
• Continue Developing as a Leader
• Complete advanced leadership, navigation, warfare, and tactical training while earning professional qualifications and preparing for greater levels of responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80
• Must meet Navy medical, physical, and security requirements
• Must be eligible to obtain the required security clearance

Pay and Benefits

Compensation may vary based on rank, time in service, duty location, housing eligibility, and other allowances.

• Estimated gross compensation during the first two years: $90,000–$110,000
• Estimated gross compensation with two to four years of service: $110,000–$130,000
• Estimated gross compensation at approximately four years of service: $130,000–$144,000
