Company Overview:

Altius Talent is partnering with a well-established freight forwarding and customs brokerage organization to identify an experienced Ocean Import Operator for their New York operation.

Position Overview:

The Ocean Import Operator will manage the end-to-end handling of ocean import shipments, ensuring accurate documentation, regulatory compliance, and timely cargo release for clients. This role suits a detail-oriented logistics professional comfortable coordinating with carriers, customs, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate ocean import shipments from arrival notice through final delivery
• Prepare and review shipping documentation including bills of lading, commercial invoices, and packing lists
• Coordinate with customs brokerage teams to ensure timely entry filing and cargo release
• Track container status, monitor ETAs, and manage demurrage/detention exposure
• Communicate proactively with clients on shipment status, delays, and exceptions
• Resolve documentation discrepancies or issues with carriers, terminals, and CBP as needed
• Maintain accurate shipment records in the company's operating system (e.g., CargoWise)
• Coordinate trucking/drayage for container pickup and delivery

Key Skills & Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience as an Ocean Import Operator or in a similar freight forwarding role
• Strong knowledge of ocean import documentation, FCL/LCL processes, and customs clearance procedures
• Experience with CargoWise or similar freight forwarding software preferred
• Comfortable working on-site in a high-volume operations environment
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously
• Excellent communication skills for client and carrier coordination
