Position Summary
The Southeast Asia Ocean Freight and Logistics Manager will coordinate ocean freight shipments from Vietnam, Cambodia, and other parts of Southeast Asia to ports in the United States.
This person will work with mills, suppliers, freight forwarders, ocean carriers, and internal company personnel to negotiate rates, book containers, coordinate shipping schedules, and resolve transportation problems.
Main Responsibilities
- Help negotiate ocean freight rates with freight forwarders and carriers.
- Compare shipping options based on cost, transit time, capacity, and reliability.
- Book containers and vessel space.
- Coordinate shipping schedules with mills and suppliers.
- Make sure containers are available and delivered to the port on time.
- Track shipments from the mill through departure and arrival at the U.S. port.
- Resolve missed sailings, delays, documentation problems, and other shipping issues.
- Maintain good relationships with freight forwarders, carriers, mills, and trucking providers.
- Review freight invoices and identify incorrect or unexpected charges.
- Keep accurate records of rates, bookings, shipment status, and shipping documents.
- Provide regular updates to the U.S. team regarding shipment schedules, delays, and freight costs.
- Help improve shipping reliability and reduce freight, detention, demurrage, and storage costs.
- Travel periodically within Vietnam, Cambodia, and Southeast Asia as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience in ocean freight, international logistics, freight forwarding, or supply chain management.
- Experience booking full-container-load shipments.
- Experience with shipments to the United States is preferred.
- Strong English communication skills are necessary.
- Mandarin and Khmer language skills are desirable.
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, email, and Microsoft Teams.
- Ability to work independently from a home office.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
