Yard Cutter

- Responsible for cutting scrap metal materials into proscribed sizes using a handheld torch in a designated area within the yard
- Inspect the cutting equipment (torch and hoses) assigned
- Ensure proper cutting procedures are followed to prevent damage to equipment and personal injury
- Ability to assess and distinguish between varying types of scrap metal material to determine appropriate cutting methods
- Knowledge of safe cutting and related to torch nursing activities, including PPE and cutting process and procedures
- Make sure the gas and oxygen filters are in good safe condition.
- Inspect cut vessel section prior to hot work to ensure any and all tanks have been drained and free of flammable liquids and all insulation, wood and cable have been removed
- Knowledge of and adherence to safety requirements in a scrap yard environment, including use of proper PPE
- Perform any and all other duties as assigned
Working Conditions
Aboard a Marine Vessel or dismantling yard.
Hazards
Heat, rain, fire, burns, falls, noise and inhalation.
