This position is in our Ag & Trading enterprise, where we connect producers and users of grains and oilseeds around the globe through origination, trading, processing, and distribution. We also offer a range of farmer services and risk management solutions.
Job Purpose and Impact
The Senior Commodity & Freight Analyst - Tankers, will conduct highly complex trading analytics efforts. In this role, you will provide analysis of markets and other economic considerations, development and deployment of highly complex models, tools and processes to influence the team to make strategic trading, risk management, margin enhancement and asset utilization decisions.
Key Accountabilities
- Maintain global models and scenarios to proactively anticipate supply demand dislocations in the tanker shipping market with trading orientated outcomes
- Maintain ‘best of’ existing tanker analysis (including some oversight and manipulation of AIS data from 3rd parties and internally), propose and lead projects to raise the bar on understanding tanker freight market fundamentals.
- Communicate analysis outcomes on weekly and quarterly basis in structured forum with relevant desk while addressing ad hoc questions in a timely manner.
- Drive continuous improvement in analysis and communication thereof
- Provide tradable insights and SnD analysis around desk discussions, prevailing market trends, newsflow and build own scenarios versus an agreed ‘base case’
- Contribute to trading game plan as required by trading desk leader.
- Liaise with oil trading and analytics team on relevant data and insights
- Work with global freight Analytics team on projects or other commodities as needs arise
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, math, science, economics or related discipline
- Minimum 5 years of experience in oil and/or tanker markets
- Technical skills to ensure automated, efficient processes are built in collaboration with data and technology teams. Python proficiency key.
- Highly numerate. Genuine passion to turn data into actionable intelligence
- Ability to communicate complex concepts / logic in simple, synthetic and non-technical terms to business audience.
- Commercial flair approach, interact and debate with fellow analysts and trading teams
- Demonstrate knowledge and authority to formulate own viewpoints, challenge existing views while maintaining humility to continue learning and absorb differing perspectives.
- Strong communication skills to articulate market views based on fundamentals, differentiating facts vs opinions.
- Able to identify business needs and translate them into relevant solutions - systems, models and analysis.
- Demonstrate flexibility in adapting to changing business needs.
- Master's degree
- Experience with complex modeling, coding, data science and big data management in a trading environment
