With more than a century of experience, Electric Boat has established standards of excellence in the design, construction and lifecycle support of submarines for the US Navy while maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. Working with various metals, a Shipfitter is required to interpret construction drawings with basic mathematic ability. Job tasks include layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of foundations, structures, components and deck packages. Individuals need to develop a working knowledge of structural weld joint fit-up/weld symbols, burning and grinding operations. Work assignments will be accomplished using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures. Work conditions may include entry in restricted/confined spaces.

Required
Qualifications
- Must have a High School Diploma/GED or be a current High School Senior OR 2+ years of relevant technical experience
- 0-5 years of relevant experience to this job description
- Successful completion of the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative training program if applicable
- Must be available to train and work on any shift
- Additional preference given for Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
- Knowledge in fitting, fairing and shaping steel pieces, hull sections, bulkheads and equipment foundations
- Ability to interpret structural drawings, technical manuals, test documents and diagrams
- Must be able to work all shifts and in all environments as well as Radiological areas of the boat
- Willing to accept road job assignments
- Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD secret clearance
