Summary
Under the direction of the Shop Supervisor, the Shop Hand assists in multiple shop operations including crating, packaging, painting, grinding, testing, receiving, and general shop support. This role is responsible for building custom wooden crates and skids, polishing and preparing units for shipment, supporting quality control efforts, and maintaining a safe, organized shop environment. The position requires the use of hand and power tools, forklifts, and cranes to safely move and prepare product for transport.
Responsibilities
- Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Build custom wooden crates, skids, and containers to securely package heavy equipment, machinery, and fragile items for shipment
- Pack, brace, and protect equipment to prevent damage during transportation
- Operate hand tools, power tools, forklifts, and overhead cranes as required
- Polish and/or paint units prior to shipment
- Assist with quality control (QC) inspections and testing activities
- Move materials and finished product throughout the shop and yard using forklifts or cranes
- Assist mechanics and other shop personnel as needed
- Perform receiving, staging, and preparation of materials
- Make local deliveries when required
- Maintain shop cleanliness and assist with daily and monthly maintenance of tools, equipment, and work areas
- Perform general shop duties and other tasks assigned by the Shop Supervisor
- Previous experience working in a warehouse, shop, or industrial environment
- Experience with crating, packing, or material handling preferred
- Ability to operate forklifts and cranes (certification a plus or ability to obtain)
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Acceptable driving record per company guidelines
- Must be able to pass a drug screen and physical
- Ability to follow safety procedures and shop standards
- Pay: $20-$22
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical work throughout the shift
- Working Conditions: Shop and warehouse environment with exposure to noise, dust, and industrial equipment
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required
