POSITION SUMMARY: The Terminal Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of terminal activities, including unloading railcars into conveying systems and bulk storage and loading customer trucks. This role includes weighing and ticketing trucks, monitoring and measuring inventory levels, reconciling daily scale tickets, and accurately entering operational data. The position also performs daily housekeeping, routine and preventive maintenance of terminal equipment, and conducts regular safety inspections to identify, document, and correct hazards or equipment defects.
Responsibilities & Expectations
- Perform safe and efficient unloading and cleaning of railcars and loading of pneumatic trailers and dump trucks.
- Operate mobile and stationary equipment, including skid steers, forklifts, excavators, and other equipment as assigned, in accordance with safety and operating standards.
- Understand material flow throughout the terminal, including the operation of conveying, feeding, and dust collection systems.
- Measure inventory levels, including bin measurements taken from the tops of bins, and reconcile shipped product against inventory.
- Perform cleanup under and around conveying and feeding equipment and maintain housekeeping standards in work areas, including the scale house and office.
- Complete basic administrative functions such as scaling trucks, reconciling daily shipments, and entering operating and scale data into computer systems.
- Inspect assigned areas and equipment for potential safety hazards and accurately document findings on daily checklists.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals and assist with specifying and ordering parts as needed.
- Maintain terminal equipment through routine inspections and basic maintenance activities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of, compliance with, and commitment to all safety rules, procedures, and policies.
- Perform all job tasks in a safe, timely, and efficient manner while maintaining a high standard of housekeeping.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support terminal operations.
- Strong commitment to safety, PPE compliance, and housekeeping standards.
- Ability to work safely in hot, dusty, noisy industrial environments.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently when required.
- Willingness and ability to learn new tasks, procedures, and equipment.
- Dependable with consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Basic reading, math, and computer skills.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance and punctuality; work any shift, overtime, weekends, holidays, or be on‑call, if needed.
- Perform physically demanding work for extended periods, including standing, bending, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, balancing, reaching and exposure to weather.
- Access all areas of the plant, including climbing stairs and ladders, working at heights up to approximately 120 feet, and entering confined spaces.
- Work safely around moving equipment, conveyors, and mobile equipment.
- Tolerate exposure to heat, cold, noise, vibration, dust, fumes, and lime/mineral particles.
- Ability to see, hear, communicate, and maintain situational awareness in an industrial environment.
- Ability to travel to other terminals as required by business needs.
- Ability to obtain certification as a weighmaster in South Carolina.
- Occasionally lift/carry 56 pounds.
- Pushing/pulling a maximum force of 90 lbf.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Technical training or associate degree in a technical or industrial field.
- Experience in an industrial environment with bulk material handling, storage, and shipping.
- 1–2 years of experience in heavy manufacturing, mining, or industrial plant operations.
- Previous heavy equipment operation experience.
