Demurrage management is strategic for the company’s profitability, aiming to optimize financial outcomes and limit contractual risks inherent to trading and shipping activities. The position focuses on handling financial matters related to vessel laytime during loading and discharging operations.
Your Main Responsibilities
- Optimize & Protect: Analyze operational and contractual documentation to maximize financial performance and minimize risk, working closely with the Front Office.
- Negotiate & Influence: Engage directly with internal and external stakeholders, including occasional reconciliation missions abroad.
- Drive Strategy: Monitor quarterly reporting and help shape commercial strategies alongside traders.
- Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with operations, traders, middle office, and legal experts to ensure seamless execution.
- Manage Risk: Review long-term contracts to identify and mitigate potential contractual risks.
- Products: Crude oil, refined products, petrochemicals, LPG, and dry cargo.
- Fleet: From barges to VLCCs.
- Counterparties: Oil majors, trading companies, national oil companies, brokers, and shipowners.
- Team Spirit: Agile teams in an open-space setting that fosters collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- You have a background in maritime transport, logistics, oil trading, or maritime law.
- 3-5 years of successful experience in a related field,
- You have a strong command of English (spoken and written). French is a plus.
- You show excellent organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
- You are considered as team-oriented, curious, proactive, and able to take initiative in a fast-paced environment.
- A background in Law, combined with prior experience in a Demurrage function, would be considered a strong asset.
- Experience gained both within a trading and shipping environment and with a shipowner would be highly valued, providing a well-rounded understanding of demurrage matters across the maritime value chain.
