Role Description The Checker is a full-time, on-site position based in Tacoma, WA, responsible for verifying and recording container movements and related documentation. Day-to-day tasks include checking container numbers, seals, and conditions; confirming load and discharge lists; and ensuring all information is accurately entered into systems or paper logs. The role involves coordinating with yard staff, drivers, and supervisors to confirm loading and unloading instructions, resolve discrepancies, and maintain orderly container placement. The Checker will also monitor adherence to safety procedures, report issues promptly, and support inventory counts, audits, and operational reporting.
Qualifications
- Ability to accurately check, record, and reconcile container numbers, paperwork, and inventory with strong attention to detail.
- Basic computer and data entry skills, including use of spreadsheets, yard management systems, or handheld devices.
- Effective communication skills to work with drivers, yard personnel, and supervisors, and to report discrepancies clearly.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced operations environment.
- Commitment to safety standards and procedures in a container yard or similar industrial setting.
- Prior experience in logistics, warehousing, port operations, or container services is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work on-site in varying weather conditions, stand and walk for extended periods, and perform light physical tasks.
- High school diploma or equivalent; willingness to learn standard operating procedures and participate in training.
