About the Role

Nitro Sibir is seeking a hands-on IT and Automation professional to support the business across software development, industrial control programming, electronics/instrumentation, and to help shape our approach to applied AI. This is a broad, cross-functional role suited to someone comfortable moving between writing code, troubleshooting a control panel on site, and advising leadership on where technology can add value — spanning production, engineering and capital projects.

Key Responsibilities

Application Development

  • Design, build, and maintain internal business applications and tools (web, desktop, or mobile) that support operations, project tracking, and reporting
  • Maintain and improve existing spreadsheets, dashboards, and databases used across project and operations teams
  • Integrate systems and data sources to reduce manual data entry and improve reporting accuracy

Microprocessor / Microcontroller (MPU/MCU) Programming

  • Develop, program, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and microcontroller-based control systems (e.g. Allen Bradley, or equivalent platforms in use on site)
  • Support commissioning of new equipment (tanks, pumps, agitators, valves, conveyors) requiring control logic, I/O configuration, and HMI screens
  • Maintain documentation for control system architecture, I/O lists, and program revisions

Business AI Direction

  • Identify practical opportunities to apply AI/automation tools across operations, maintenance, procurement, and reporting workflows
  • Evaluate and recommend AI-enabled tools and platforms, balancing cost, capability, and data security
  • Act as an internal point of contact for AI-related questions, pilots, and rollouts, working with leadership to set direction and priorities

Electrical/Electronic & Project Support

  • Provide electronic and instrumentation support across capital and maintenance projects (motor drives, VSDs, sensors, flow meters, level switches, and similar field instrumentation)
  • Support installation, testing, and commissioning activities alongside external contractors and engineering firms.
  • Troubleshoot electronic faults across production and site infrastructure, minimizing downtime.
  • Liaise with external suppliers, engineers, and contractors (e.g. control system integrators, equipment manufacturers) on technical specifications and issues

What You'll Bring

  • Trade, diploma, or degree qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent demonstrated experience)
  • Practical experience programming PLCs/HMIs and/or microcontrollers in an industrial environment
  • Experience developing software applications or tools (any modern stack — please detail your experience)
  • Familiarity with, or strong interest in, applying AI tools to real business problems
  • Strong electrical/electronic fault-finding skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple concurrent projects, and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Current driver's licence; willingness to travel between sites
  • Australian Police Clearance

Nice to Have

  • Experience in mining, chemical manufacturing, or explosives/emulsion production environments
  • Exposure to SCADA systems, industrial networking, or instrumentation from major suppliers (e.g. Endress+Hauser, IFM, SMC, Festo)
  • Experience with data analysis, reporting tools, or low-code platforms
