What You'll Do At Elekta

Lead Research Scientists are responsible for pursuing various innovation and exploration activities individually and in collaboration with others. You will be part of the Physics and Advanced Applications group at Business Line Neuro, a dedicated research and pre-development group. We investigate future technology and product concepts with a particular focus on physics, optimization, machine learning, and prototype development. Even though we are a research group, software development is at the core of what we do, so we expect you to not only be a skilled researcher but also have experience in good software development practices, preferably in Python.

For this position, we anticipate extended touchpoints to early-stage development of machine learning products, so experience of machine learning pipelines is considered an advantage.

This is an opportunity to use your technical skills to save, or improve, the lives of patients with diseases in the brain, including neurological diseases and cancer.

Responsibilities

  • Lead research and innovation activities aligned with Elekta’s strategic objectives.
  • Contribute to ML production pipelines and scalable, maintainable software solutions.
  • Develop and evaluate future technology concepts across physics, optimization, mathematical modelling, machine learning and software development.
  • Design prototypes and perform scientific analyses, evaluations and technical investigations.
  • Provide technical expertise across R&D, regulatory, quality and product development activities.
  • Promote software development best practices focused on quality, collaboration and maintainability.
  • Mentor colleagues and share expertise to strengthen technical excellence.

What You'll Bring

  • PhD in Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Physics or a related field, or MSc with significant relevant industry and research experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant post-PhD research or technology development.
  • Experience developing machine learning solutions and production-grade ML pipelines.
  • Strong software development skills, preferably in Python, with sound engineering practices.
  • Expertise in one or more of physics, optimization, mathematical modelling or machine learning.
  • Good communication skills in English. Swedish is considered an advantage but is not required.
  • Curious, collaborative and proactive, with a passion for innovation and patient impact.

What You'll Get

  • 30 paid vacation days per year.
  • 4 additional Elekta days off.
  • Defined contribution pension scheme.
  • Private Medical Insurance.
  • Lunch benefit.
  • Contribution to wellness activities.
  • A collaborative office environment where you'll work alongside talented colleagues in a supportive and engaging workplace.
