R&D Engineer: Tablet Development

Location

Lausanne, Switzerland

Employment Type

100%

Location Type

Fully on-site

We’re building a new generation of endoscopes connected to a standardized tablet platform, designed to make minimally invasive procedures safer, faster, and more precise. Our technology helps surgeons access challenging anatomy and perform treatments with greater stability and control.

As an EPFL spin-off, we are a fast-growing medical device startup developing breakthrough endoscopy solutions and preparing our first products for regulatory approval. This is a great opportunity for people who enjoy working in a high-potential startup environment, where you can have a direct impact on the product and grow with the company.

About The Role

This R&D Engineer, Tablet Design role focuses on developing and optimizing the tablet-based interface of our medical endoscopy system, with a strong emphasis on video quality, imaging performance, and hardware integration. You will be responsible for the design and development of the tablet system, including the integration of chip-on-the-tip camera modules, light sources, and data transmission to ensure high-quality real-time visualization for surgeons.

You will work closely with the core engineering team to improve image quality from sensor to display, addressing challenges in signal processing, latency, illumination control, and overall system performance. This includes optimizing the connection between the endoscope and the tablet, ensuring robust and reliable video streaming, and enhancing the final visual output used during procedures. You will report directly to the CTO and collaborate with both hardware and software teams to deliver a seamless and high-performance user experience.

You will play a key role in advancing the imaging capabilities of Dexterous Endoscopes systems, contributing directly to how surgeons interact with and trust our technology in the operating room. This role is suited for engineers who enjoy working at the intersection of hardware and software, solving complex integration problems, and taking ownership of critical system components.

Working in an early-stage medical technology startup requires initiative, resilience, and a willingness to build and refine systems from the ground up. If you are motivated by the opportunity to push the limits of medical imaging and help deliver cutting-edge endoscopy technology into clinical practice, this role offers that chance.

Responsibilities

  • Strong understanding of both hardware and software, including camera systems and tablet design
  • Ability to work across the full stack, from chip-on-the-tip camera modules to final video display
  • Experience with video pipelines, image processing, and real-time data transmission
  • Hands-on approach with system integration, debugging, and performance optimization
  • Experience working closely with external contract manufacturers and component suppliers
  • Comfort working in a small team and taking full ownership of complex technical systems

Required Knowledge And Experience

  • 4+ years of experience in system engineering, imaging systems, or embedded development, preferably in medical devices
  • Fluent in English (C1)
  • Strong experience with camera systems, video pipelines, and real-time image processing
  • Solid understanding of both hardware and software integration, including tablet or embedded display systems
  • Experience working with chip-on-the-tip cameras, signal transmission, and video optimization
  • Experience working with ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62304, IEC 60601-1, and regulated medical device production environments
  • Understanding of usability considerations under IEC 62366 (human factors engineering)
  • Experience from endoscopy or similar MedTech companies is strongly preferred

Application Process

To be considered for this role, please apply through the LinkedIn application system. Applications submitted via direct messages to the management team will not be reviewed.
