Senior Software Engineer – Robotics / Autonomous Systems

Location: LA, California (Onsite)

Employment Type: Full-Time

New Space Technical is partnering with an innovative space technology company developing advanced robotic and autonomous systems for future space missions. This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing engineering team working on cutting-edge robotics that will operate in some of the most challenging environments beyond Earth.

As a Senior Robotics Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing robust localization and navigation software for autonomous robotic platforms. You'll work across simulation and real-world hardware to design, implement, test, and optimise algorithms that enable reliable positioning and navigation in GPS-denied environments.

This role is well suited to engineers who enjoy solving complex robotics challenges, working across software and hardware, and delivering mission-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop localization software for autonomous robotic platforms.
  • Implement sensor fusion algorithms using data from IMUs, cameras, LiDAR, odometry and other onboard sensors.
  • Develop and refine localization techniques for operation in GPS-denied environments.
  • Test and validate software on robotic hardware and within simulation environments.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate localization with autonomy, perception and navigation systems.
  • Analyse system performance and continuously improve algorithm accuracy and robustness.

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of professional experience developing software in Python and/or C/C++.
  • Experience developing software for robotic or autonomous systems.
  • Strong understanding of localization techniques such as INS, EKF, Factor Graphs or SLAM.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Software Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Autonomous vehicles, robotics or intelligent systems.
  • LiDAR or vision-based localization.
  • Visual SLAM or LiDAR SLAM.
  • Sensor fusion and terrain-relative navigation.
  • ROS/ROS2.
  • Robotics simulation tools such as Gazebo or MuJoCo.
  • Aerospace, space, or other safety-critical engineering environments.
  • Experience deploying production-ready software.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary of $155,000–$200,000, depending on experience.
  • Equity opportunity.
  • Comprehensive health, dental and vision benefits.
  • Paid Time Off.
  • The opportunity to contribute to advanced autonomous technologies that will support the next generation of space missions.

Eligibility

Due to export control regulations, applicants must be eligible to work on U.S. export-controlled programmes. This typically includes U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents (Green Card holders), or individuals otherwise authorised to work on such projects.
