Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Optical Metrology & Machine Vision Engineer to design, develop, and deploy advanced measurement systems that integrate optical metrology and machine vision technologies for manufacturing and product development. This role focuses on developing innovative inspection solutions, implementing image processing and machine learning algorithms, and transitioning technologies from concept to production.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and deploy optical metrology and machine vision measurement systems.
- Develop image processing algorithms for feature extraction, classification, and dimensional measurement.
- Train and implement machine learning models, including CNNs, to improve measurement accuracy and system performance.
- Integrate measurement systems into manufacturing processes in collaboration with Development, Quality, IT, and Operations teams.
- Transition technologies from research and development into production-ready solutions.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, system specifications, operating procedures, and software manuals.
- Train engineering, maintenance, and operations personnel on deployed systems.
- Troubleshoot, optimize, and support measurement systems using performance metrics and data analysis.
- Travel domestically and internationally (10–30%) to support system deployment and troubleshooting.
Required Qualifications
- BS, MS, or PhD in Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience designing and implementing optical metrology or machine vision systems.
- Hands-on experience with optical systems, imaging hardware, and measurement instruments.
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or C#.
- Experience developing machine vision algorithms, including blob analysis, edge detection, morphology, feature extraction, and classification.
- Experience with machine learning techniques, including CNN training and traditional machine learning methods.
- Proficiency with data analysis and visualization using Python, MATLAB, or Excel.
- Experience with Halcon, OpenCV, LabVIEW, or similar vision software.
- Strong communication, documentation, and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with optical metrology, including 3D measurement, laser-based systems, and physical optics.
- Knowledge of motion control systems and industrial imaging platforms.
- Experience with statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE).
- Familiarity with database management and high-performance computing environments.
- Experience supporting manufacturing inspection and metrology systems.
