Position Description

We are seeking an outstanding Postdoctoral Researcher to join the VHIO Radiomics Group and lead innovative research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, computational medical imaging, and multi-omics integration for precision oncology.

The successful candidate will play a leading role in developing next-generation computational methods for quantitative imaging biomarkers and multimodal AI models that integrate medical imaging, molecular profiling, pathology, and clinical data. These approaches will support early cancer detection, patient stratification, prognosis, and prediction of treatment response.

Beyond conducting high-impact research, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to the scientific leadership of the group by mentoring PhD students and junior researchers, fostering collaborations across disciplines, and contributing to competitive research proposals and high-impact publications.

The Position

We are looking for a highly motivated Computer Scientist with expertise in computational medical imaging who enjoys solving challenging interdisciplinary problems.

The Successful Candidate Will Develop Novel Computational Approaches For

  • Quantitative medical image analysis
  • Imaging biomarker development
  • Artificial Intelligence for precision oncology
  • Multi-omics integration combining imaging, genomics, pathology and clinical data
  • Predictive modelling for:
    • early cancer detection
    • patient prognosis
    • treatment response prediction
  • Development of reproducible research pipelines and software for translational cancer research
The position offers the opportunity to work on high-impact international collaborative projects addressing clinically relevant questions across multiple cancer types.

Requirements

  • PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Imaging, Computational Biology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proven research experience in Artificial Intelligence, with a strong publication record in machine learning and/or deep learning for biomedical applications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in computational medical image analysis.
  • Mandatory experience in MRI analysis and/or the development or application of Large Language Models (LLMs) for biomedical or clinical research.
  • Excellent programming skills in Python.
  • Strong background in statistical modelling, machine learning, and scientific software development.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.

Essential Skills And Experience

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • A proactive, independent, and highly motivated approach to research.
  • The ability to design, lead, and deliver innovative computational research projects.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and scientific writing abilities.
  • Experience working effectively in multidisciplinary and international research environments.
  • Previous mentoring or supervision experience of MSc or PhD students (mandatory).
  • Ability to balance methodological innovation with clinically driven translational research.

In addition, candidates must have demonstrated experience in at least one of the following:

  • MRI acquisition, processing and quantitative analysis
  • Large Language Models (LLMs), foundation models, multimodal generative AI or clinical language models

Preference Will Be Given To Candidates With

  • Experience publishing in leading journals or conferences in AI, medical imaging, computational oncology or medicine.
  • Experience obtaining competitive funding or contributing to grant applications.
  • Experience collaborating with clinicians and translational researchers.
  • Familiarity with multimodal foundation models and emerging AI methodologies for precision medicine

  • 📝Permanent contract.
