Systems DSP Engineer (Sensors) - MATLAB / Python

The Opportunity

A leading semiconductor company is seeking a Systems DSP Engineer to join its Sensors Technologies group in Cork. The role sits at the heart of sensor algorithm development, working across the full product lifecycle from early R&D through to commercial deployment on platforms spanning smartphones, automotive, IoT, smartwatches, and consumer electronics.

You will work alongside global systems, software, and integration engineers, taking ownership of DSP algorithm development and tuning while contributing to the broader sensors engineering programme.

Please note - this role can be 100% remote from within Ireland

What you will be doing:

Your core focus will be developing and tuning DSP-based algorithms in MATLAB and Python, with particular attention to the tradeoffs between performance, memory, power consumption, and computational complexity in both fixed and floating-point designs. You will validate algorithm performance, produce evaluation reports, and deliver clear design and user documentation throughout.

Beyond the technical work, you will communicate results and design decisions to product management, systems, and software leads, and lead systems projects end-to-end, from requirements gathering through systems design to software implementation.

What they are looking for:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant systems engineering experience is required for candidates with a bachelor's degree; a master's degree is also considered.
  • A solid grounding in digital signal processing concepts including filter design and LTI systems, and familiarity with linear algebra, probability, and statistics.
  • Experience optimising DSP operations for edge AI, floating to fixed-point conversion, and bitwidth optimisation for low-power embedded devices would be a strong advantage, as would knowledge of MEMs and inertial sensors.
  • Basic machine learning concepts, including supervised and unsupervised learning, feature extraction, classification, and neural networks, are valued.
  • Embedded programming skills in C or C++ are beneficial, and strong analytical ability and communication skills are important throughout.
