About the role: Team Head / Technical Product Owner - Physical AI Platforms, Canada
Are you an entrepreneurial technology leader with a passion for building high-performing R&D teams and turning advanced AI and robotics concepts into scalable industrial platforms?
Do you thrive at the intersection of product ownership, software engineering, robotics, AI, and customer-facing innovation?
We are seeking an outstanding Team Head / Technical Product Owner to establish and lead a new Canada-based development team focused on building the platform foundations for Physical AI in industrial environments. This team will initially cover three tightly connected areas:
- Robotics Data Platform
- Robotics Skills Enablement
- Robot Task Workflow Execution / Machine-level Orchestration
This is a leadership role for someone who can combine strategic product thinking, strong technical understanding, and hands-on team-building capability in an emerging and highly cross-functional domain!
What will you do?
- Build and lead the Canada Physical AI platform team, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, and creating a strong engineering culture.
- Own the team roadmap across robotics data platform capabilities, Level 3 skill enablement support, and workflow execution/orchestration foundations.
- Translate strategic goals, customer needs, research inputs, and platform constraints into a clear backlog, delivery plan, and operating model.
- Shape the team’s technical and product mission in close collaboration with global stakeholders across robotics, AI, platform engineering, industrial software, and research.
- Act as a primary interface between the Canada team and research partners, including teams focused on model development, evaluation, and advanced robotics AI.
- Drive customer and pilot readiness by ensuring the platform can support industrial data campaigns, secure onboarding, governance, observability, and operational execution.
- Establish a scalable way of working including backlog management, sprint cadence, release planning, quality expectations, and milestone reviews.
- Ensure clear boundaries and collaboration models between research teams, platform teams, integration teams, and future application/runtime teams.
- Promote responsible AI-assisted engineering practices to improve developer productivity, documentation, testing, and engineering quality.
- Grow the Canada site from a founding team into a thriving hub for Physical AI platform engineering.
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience, in Product Ownership, Engineering Management, Technical Leadership, or Team Leadership roles in software, AI, robotics, industrial technology, or platform engineering.
- Strong ability to turn ambiguous strategic direction into structured product requirements, delivery plans, and technical priorities.
- Solid understanding of AI/ML workflows, robotics systems, industrial software, cloud-native platforms, APIs, DevOps, cybersecurity, and data lifecycle management.
- Demonstrated experience building, mentoring, and scaling high-performing technical teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills across research, engineering, product management, business leadership, and customer-facing organizations.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to align executive and engineering audiences.
- A practical and goal driven attitude, especially in early-stage platform environments.
- Experience with robotics data, robot learning, VLA/VLM-related workflows, or industrial automation environments.
- Experience building AI platforms, data platforms, MLOps platforms, or developer platforms.
- Experience working across global matrix organizations or research-to-product transitions.
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration, robotics connectivity, or edge/industrial deployment environments.
- Impact: Build the founding team and platform capability for a strategic Physical AI initiative in Canada.
- Innovation: Work at the intersection of robotics, AI, industrial software, workflow orchestration, and platform engineering.
- Leadership: Shape the direction, culture, and operating model of a new strategic engineering organization.
- Collaboration: Partner with leading global research, product, and engineering teams.
- Growth: Help define how Physical AI platform capabilities scale from data foundations to runtime-enabled industrial applications.
