Help Build a Groundbreaking New AI Bid/Estimate/Lending Product for Residential Construction General Contractors

We are a stealth-stage AI company backed by a top-tier VC, on a mission to reinvent how residential construction projects are estimated, priced, financed, and paid. We're building an AI-powered mobile platform that allows general contractors to walk through a home with nothing more than a smartphone, automatically identify rooms, materials, fixtures, and construction tasks, generate professional estimates, produce customer proposals, manage change orders, and ultimately unlock financing based on real-time project intelligence.

We are building the financial infrastructure for residential contractors, where every project improves our understanding of contractor performance and enables faster access to capital. We're backed by one of the nation's leading venture capital firms and are assembling a small founding team of exceptional builders.

The Role

We are seeking an exceptional AI-fluent Full-Stack Engineer with deep expertise in computer vision to lead development of the company’s core mobile platform. You will be one of the company's first engineering hires and will work directly with the Founder & CEO to build our flagship product from the ground up.

You'll design and launch our entire MVP from scratch (prototype is currently well-defined and tested with our target initial customers), write production code, evaluate emerging AI technologies, solve difficult product problems, and help establish the engineering culture of the company.

If you enjoy solving ambiguous, first-principles problems and building category-defining products, we'd love to meet you. Of note – while the company has been founded/will be built primarily in NYC, we don’t care where you’re located so long as you’re in the US, are well-qualified, and are passionate about helping us build the product we’re bringing into reality.

What You'll Build

You will help create our core mobile application, capable of:

• Understanding residential spaces through a smartphone camera
• Detecting rooms, objects, fixtures, and construction materials
• Estimating renovation costs using AI and cutting-edge computer vision tools
• Generating contractor proposals and estimates
• Creating AI-assisted change orders
• Capturing project progress through photos and video
• Producing structured construction data from unstructured visual inputs
• Integrating payment, financing, and project workflows into a single platform

You'll own significant portions of the product and have the freedom to shape both architecture and implementation.

Responsibilities

Computer Vision

• Build camera-based room scanning workflows
• Develop object detection and segmentation pipelines
• Create models that identify construction materials, fixtures, finishes, and building components
• Improve visual recognition accuracy through continuous model evaluation
• Integrate vision outputs into downstream pricing and estimation workflows
• Leverage LiDAR

AI & Machine Learning

• Integrate state-of-the-art vision-language and large language models into production applications
• Evaluate emerging AI models and determine the best tools for specific product tasks
• Design prompt orchestration, retrieval, and structured output pipelines
• Collaborate with our data science team on intelligent estimation and risk-scoring capabilities

Product Engineering

• Build and maintain our iOS and Android mobile applications
• Design scalable backend services and APIs
• Develop secure cloud infrastructure
• Architect AI-first product workflows
• Optimize application performance and reliability

Full-Stack Development

• Develop mobile, web, and backend systems
• Design scalable APIs
• Integrate third-party services
• Implement authentication, security, and data management best practices
• Build internal tooling to accelerate engineering velocity

Founding Team Responsibilities

• Help define our engineering roadmap
• Participate in product strategy discussions
• Establish coding standards and engineering processes
• Recruit and mentor future engineers
• Contribute to company culture and technical decision-making

What We're Looking For

You combine strong software engineering fundamentals with genuine curiosity about AI and computer vision. Most importantly, you enjoy solving real-world problems rather than simply experimenting with technology.

Required Qualifications

• Ideally several years of professional software engineering experience (startup experience preferred) – but we’ll consider exceptional/driven candidates who don’t have meaningful professional work experience so long as you have most/all of the qualifications below.
• Proven experience building and shipping production software
• Strong full-stack engineering capabilities across mobile, backend, and cloud systems
• Experience building AI-powered applications
• Demonstrated experience with computer vision technologies and image processing
• Strong proficiency in Python and one modern frontend/mobile framework
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure and modern API architectures
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
• Comfortable working directly with founders in a fast-moving startup environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Computer Vision, or a related technical field (strongly preferred) – or demonstrated “one-of-one” AI development prowess in place of academic qualifications.
• Experience with multimodal AI systems
• Experience deploying computer vision models into production
• Experience building mobile-first AI products
• Experience with LiDAR, spatial computing, or AR frameworks
• Experience working with construction technology, mapping, robotics, or industrial AI is a plus
