General Summary
At Qualcomm XR Research, we develop state-of-the-art perception technologies that power next-generation AR/VR/MR experiences.
We are looking for an experienced engineer(s) to evaluate, analyze, and improve perception systems including SLAM, visual-inertial odometry, localization, mapping, and multi-sensor fusion technologies. The role sits at the intersection of computer vision, robotics, sensor fusion, data science, and system evaluation. This role is ideal for candidates with backgrounds in SLAM, robotics, autonomous systems, computer vision, localization, sensor fusion, or applied mathematics who enjoy solving challenging real-world problems using data and analytical techniques.
Key Responsibilities
Perception & Algorithm Validation
- Develop evaluation methodologies for SLAM, visual-inertial localization, and multi-sensor perception systems.
- Analyze large-scale datasets to characterize algorithm performance, robustness, and failure modes.
- Design quantitative metrics and KPIs for perception quality, tracking stability, drift, re-localization, and robustness.
- Build scalable tools and automation frameworks for perception evaluation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to diagnose perception failures and accelerate algorithm improvements.
- Strong foundation in mathematics (linear algebra, geometry, probability, optimization).
- Strong proficiency in Python for automation, analysis, and tooling.
- Solid understanding of SLAM algorithms and perception pipelines.
- Strong knowledge of sensor calibration (camera, IMU, multi‑sensor systems).
- Experience with large log analysis, offline processing, and metrics generation.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly.
- Proven ability to work across teams and support stakeholder debugging needs.
- 1 to 10 Years of relevant experience
- Industry experience in perception systems, computer vision, robotics, or XR technologies.
- M.Tech / MS in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field.
- Experience with XR, AR/VR/MR, robotics, or autonomous systems.
- Familiarity with tools such as GTSAM, Ceres, OpenCV, ROS, or similar libraries.
- Experience with ground‑truth systems (motion capture, GNSS, fiducials).
- Experience influencing validation strategy at a system or org level.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
