Shape the future with data. Solve real-world challenges. Make an impact from day one.

At Tonkin + Taylor, we use science, engineering, and technology to create sustainable outcomes for our communities across Aotearoa, Australia, and the Pacific. Data plays an increasingly important role in how we understand complex problems, generate insights, and support better decisions for our clients.

We're looking for a curious and motivated Data Scientist to join our growing Data + Analytics team. This is an opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers, scientists, and data specialists while building your skills on meaningful projects that make a difference.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Data Scientist, you'll help transform data into valuable insights that support projects across infrastructure, environment, natural hazards, water, transport, and more.

You'll have opportunities to:

  • Analyse, clean, and transform large and complex datasets
  • Develop data pipelines and workflows to support project delivery
  • Apply data science, statistical analysis, and machine learning techniques to real-world problems
  • Create visualisations and dashboards that help tell compelling stories through data
  • Work alongside engineers, scientists, and digital specialists on multidisciplinary projects
  • Explore emerging technologies and innovative ways to solve client challenges
  • Contribute to the development of tools, automation, and best practices across the business

No two days will be the same, and you'll gain exposure to a diverse range of projects and industries.

What You'll Bring

  • 1-5 plus years of experience in a similar role
  • A degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering Science, Software Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline
  • Experience using Python, R, SQL, or similar analytical tools
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • The ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to learn from others
  • Naturally curious, enjoy solving problems, and using data to create positive change.
  • Great attention to detail and a proactive approach to your work

Experience with machine learning, computer vision, cloud platforms, or data engineering concepts would be advantageous, but isn't essential.

Why Tonkin + Taylor?

At T+T, you'll join a supportive community and be backed by people who genuinely care about your growth and development.

We offer:

  • Structured development and mentoring
  • Exposure to a wide range of projects and industries
  • Flexible ways of working
  • Additional purchased leave options
  • Generous parental and sick leave benefits
  • Professional development opportunities and ongoing learning support
  • Employee shareholding opportunities
  • A collaborative culture where your ideas are welcomed and encouraged

Ready to make an impact?

If you're passionate about data, technology, and solving real-world challenges, we'd love to hear from you.
