About Ucentrics
Ucentrics AG is a deep-tech startup and ETH Zurich spin-off building AI- and AR-powered solutions for frontline workers in complex industrial environments.
Our mission is to capture organizational knowledge and expertise and transform it into scalable digital guidance, intelligent task verification, and automated documentation across mobile devices and AR wearables.
The Role
We are looking for a Lead AI Scientist to lead the development of our agentic AI systems that understand industrial processes by reasoning across workflows, documents, reports, videos, and connected tools. These systems will transform expert and organizational knowledge into digital user guidance, enable real-time visual task verification, and automate process documentation.
You will take ownership of these AI capabilities from research and prototyping through to production. Working closely with our CTO and our software engineering, AR/mobile, and product teams, you will turn advances in computer vision, foundation models, VLMs, and LLMs into reliable and scalable product capabilities.
This role requires strong technical depth, curiosity, and a pragmatic approach to turning ambitious research ideas into products that create measurable value in real-world environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Define the technical direction of our AI capabilities and lead their development from research to production
- Develop computer vision and machine learning models for industrial process understanding and real-time task verification
- Build multimodal AI systems that extract and structure operational knowledge from videos, documents, reports, and workflow data
- Establish evaluation methods for model accuracy, robustness, reliability, and product impact
- Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to integrate AI capabilities into scalable production systems
- PhD in computer vision, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or a closely related field (outstanding non-PhD applicants are also welcome to apply)
- Strong hands-on experience in computer vision and machine learning, such as object detection, classification, 3D registration pipelines
- Practical experience with transformers, foundation models, VLMs, LLMs, MCP, and agentic AI pipelines
- Proficiency in Python and PyTorch, Tensorflow
- Experience with Cloud services such as Azure and google cloud
- Ability to formulate complex research and product problems, evaluate solutions rigorously, and translate results into working systems
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate closely with engineering, product, and leadership teams
- Experience deploying and operating AI systems in production is a strong advantage
- Proficient in English; German is an advantage
We value rigor, pragmatic experimentation, reliability, trust, and the ability to move comfortably between research questions, product requirements, and engineering constraints.
Why Join Ucentrics?
- Work on challenging multimodal AI problems grounded in real industrial processes
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team across AI, software engineering, and product development
- Take significant ownership in a fast-moving environment with short decision paths
- Receive a competitive salary and the opportunity to participate in the company’s equity program
- Seniority level Mid-Senior level
- Employment type Full-time
- Job function Science and Engineering
- Industries Manufacturing and Artificial Intelligence
