Senior Full Stack Engineer (AI-Augmented)

Uptech is rebuilding how fleets manage tolls and violations across the United States. Our founders invented this industry: they created the first rental car tolling programs, built the platform that managed over 4 million vehicles at its peak, and sold that company in 2018. Now we're building it again from scratch, on modern, AI-first technology. We're small, distributed, and shipping fast, and everything we ship goes to real customers.

What this role actually is

We're not hiring "developers." We're hiring AI orchestrators: engineers who direct AI across the entire SDLC — writing, testing, verifying, deploying, troubleshooting, documenting — and ship 10x what a traditional developer ships, with better traceability and tighter validation. You bring the judgment, the architectural intent, and the verification design. The AI does the volume.

This is a founding engineer role. You own outcomes, not tickets. You make architectural calls, defend them to the C-suite, and pivot when the company pivots. You don't wait for permission or perfect specs.

What you'll do

• Own full-stack delivery across our Python and Go services, PostgreSQL data layer, and AWS infrastructure
• Contribute to our Flutter mobile apps on iOS and Android
• Push AI tooling to its frontier: Claude Code, sub-agents, custom skills, MCP, hooks, automated review loops
• Own testing across the full pyramid, with requirements traceability end to end
• Troubleshoot like a forensic investigator: root cause, not band-aids
• Make architecture and deployment calls and communicate the trade-offs in business language

What we need (non-negotiables)

• 5+ years of hands-on engineering before AI-augmented workflows — you learned the hard way first, which is how you can tell when the AI is wrong
• Demonstrable 10x output via Claude Code or comparable tools, with concrete examples
• Recent founding-engineer experience: employee #1–3 on a product, shipping without a safety net
• Real testing discipline across unit, integration, e2e, and smoke
• Performance instincts and troubleshooting depth
• Independent, async-first, bias toward validation and traceability
• Genuine love for the full SDLC — you don't want to specialize into a corner

What we don't want

Vibe coders. We want people who use AI for everything — but the vibe coder accepts whatever the AI produces because the AI produced it. The orchestrator accepts it because it passed the validation gates they designed, and can investigate and direct a fix at 2am when something breaks.
