AI Architect | Next Gen Quant Research Platform | Quant Hedge Fund (Boston)

One of Boston's most prestigious quantitative investment firms is looking for an AI Engineer to join their Investment team directly (not central engineering, this is a lean firm — about 400 people total). This firm centralizes all of its proprietary data — used across quant research, portfolio management, forecasting, systematic credit, and performance reporting — and runs it through predictive models to generate the signals that actually drive portfolio decisions: position sizing, stock selection, what's really driving returns and risk on any account or portfolio.


This year, this firm has completely transformed itself with AI. Almost 70% of the firm now uses Claude Code on a daily basis. They're building hundreds of reusable skills and 30+ plugins across a centralized, custom AI marketplace. This is an exceptional opportunity to work on an LLM that can take 50 years of this firm’s proprietary investment research, and pair it with a variety of layered, centralized agentic solutions that massively increase the velocity of complex, multi-step research workflows (i.e. chaining historical data, revisiting old white papers, pulling in meeting transcripts, incorporating new factors, and producing usable output, all with human-in-the-loop review built in.)


This role sits right at the center of that transformation, embedded with researchers and PMs. This is not a maintenance seat focused on a mature platform. You’ll be working directly with Researchers and PMs to build new agentic tools, help define and shape best practices, and foster the adoption of new solutions for the entire investment team.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and operate investment-facing AI agents, skills, and workflows that automate repeatable research and portfolio tasks
  • Drive adoption of the firm's AI tooling among slower-adopting researchers and PMs
  • Partner with PMs who've built their own automation outside the centralized platform, and help fold that work into it
  • Embed directly within investment teams, translating ambiguous investment intent into clear specs and reviewable merge requests
  • Partner directly with quant researchers and portfolio managers to prototype, refine, and productionize AI-enabled workflows
  • Define and enforce guardrails around cost, data access, agent scope, and commit size
  • Measure and improve adoption, quality, and time-to-value across AI-enabled workflows


Qualifications:

  • Strong Python skills, and good instincts around modern tooling
  • Significant experience delivering production-grade software as a software or AI engineer — this is an execution seat, not a research role
  • Real, hands-on experience building and operating AI/LLM-enabled tooling or agentic workflows in production
  • Experience partnering directly with quant researchers, portfolio managers, or similarly sophisticated domain experts
  • Comfortable reasoning through tradeoffs around quality, cost, speed, and risk day to day
