Backend Engineer - Azure

A hands-on backend engineering role: deep Azure, strong backend fundamentals, AI-native development. Sydney-based, global team, shipping real enterprise AI products.

Enterprise AI is a Sydney startup helping organisations put AI to work - properly.

We're a small, sharp team across Sydney, Manila and New York, and we build the way we tell our clients to: AI agents do a large share of the engineering work, and humans direct, review and ship.

THE ROLE

We're looking for a Backend Engineer with genuine Azure depth to join our Sydney team.

Azure is an important part of our architecture, so we need someone who can go beyond simply using cloud services — you should be able to reason confidently about architecture, infrastructure and production decisions.

You'll stay hands-on, build with AI coding agents, and work across backend engineering, Azure and production systems.

YOU WILL

• Build and maintain backend services and APIs
• Work with Python and/or TypeScript
• Design systems using databases, APIs and microservices
• Make sound architecture and infrastructure decisions across Microsoft Azure
• Deploy, monitor and improve production systems
• Work across CI/CD, DevOps and data management
• Review AI-generated code and make sure it meets engineering and production standards
• Improve testing, reliability, security and engineering quality
• Work closely with the Sydney and Manila engineering teams
• Understand our stack and architecture quickly and take ownership without needing heavy support

YOU

• Around 3–5 years in software engineering
• Strong backend engineering fundamentals
• Strong Python and/or TypeScript experience
• Genuine depth with Microsoft Azure
• Confident reasoning about cloud architecture and infrastructure
• Strong understanding of databases, API design and microservices
• Have deployed and supported real software in production
• Experience with CI/CD, DevOps and data management
• Comfortable using AI coding tools as part of your engineering workflow
• Strong technical judgement and able to work independently
• Learn quickly and enjoy startup environments

NICE TO HAVE

• Solution architecture experience
• QA and automated testing
• Identity and access management
• Infrastructure and security experience
• AI/LLM product experience
• Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or similar AI engineering tools
