Security Operations Analyst

Contract Length: 12 Months

Location: Akron, OH

Work Setup: Hybrid

We are seeking a Security Operations Analyst to join its IT Security Operations team, supporting the Transmission Security Operations Center (TSOC). This role focuses on security monitoring, incident investigation, threat intelligence, digital forensics, and analytics across IT, cyber security, and physical security data sources.

Security Operations Analyst Schedule

Training is 40 hours per week for approximately the first 2–3 months, typically 8:00 AM–4:00 PM or 9:00 AM–5:00 PM. After training, the Security Operations Analyst will transition to 12-hour shifts, working three 12-hour days followed by a six-day break. Candidates must live within approximately one hour of the FirstEnergy headquarters.

Security Operations Analyst Responsibilities

  • Monitor security events and logs and investigate suspicious activity during assigned day or night shifts.
  • Triage and investigate security incidents using SIEM, SOAR, threat intelligence, forensic, and big-data solutions.
  • Support forensic cases, threat intelligence analysis, and HR/Legal requests.
  • Analyze threat reports and adversarial behaviors to develop and enhance security detection content.
  • Improve SOC analytics through data enrichment, correlation, and integration of multiple data sets.
  • Research technologies and document investigations, forensic findings, SOC metrics, and reporting.

Critical Qualifications

Security Operations Analyst Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related discipline preferred; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience; candidates without a degree must have at least 2 years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of SOC operations, security incident detection, triage, investigation, and remediation.
  • Understanding of Windows/Linux, networking concepts, and MITRE Telecommunication&CK.
  • Ability to interpret Python, PowerShell, and Bash scripting.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, organizational, confidentiality, and independent working skills.

Additional Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of statistics and open-source research.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and collaborate effectively across security teams.

The Security Operations Analyst will play an important role in strengthening detection, investigation, and incident response capabilities across the security environment.
