The Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) serves as a trusted resource to assist in improving the administration of justice and promoting confidence in the judiciary. It is the administrative arm of the State's judicial branch, one of the three fundamental divisions of Tennessee state government. The judicial branch provides an essential check on the legislative and executive branches through judicial review. The AOC supports the Tennessee Supreme Court, intermediate appellate courts, trial courts, and courts of limited jurisdiction by managing programs, resources, and operations that enable the courts to function efficiently.
Job Overview
The Administrative Offices of the Court (AOC) is seeking a Network Security Engineer responsible for leading information security efforts. This role is responsible for the architecture, design, and centralized management of multi-tiered information security risk assessments, mitigation strategies, and compliance frameworks across a complex, statewide infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Security Control Management:
- Design, implement, and maintain security controls (firewalls, endpoint protection, email security, VPN, and identity/access management) aligned with agency policies
- Conduct security risk assessments, vulnerability analysis, and remediation planning; track findings through to closure system
- Manage patch management lifecycles, configuration hardening standards, and encryption protocols for both public-facing and internal enterprise systems
- Participate as a core member of the incident response team, handling triage, containment, and comprehensive post-incident documentation
- Maintain accurate security documentation, compliance artifacts, and evidence to support internal and external audit readiness
- Enterprise Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise IT infrastructure or security operations, specifically managing centralized firewalls, multi-tiered endpoint security, and scale-ready network access controls
- System Administration & Engineering: 2+ years of engineering experience working within Windows and Linux server environments, including automated patching, infrastructure hardening, and high-level technical troubleshooting
- Frameworks: Working knowledge of security frameworks (e.g. NIST 800-53, CIS Benchmarks) and ability to map controls to technical implementations
- Soft Skills: Strong documentation habits, excellent prioritization skills, and the ability to coordinate effectively across cross-functional IT teams
- Logistics: Ability to travel within the state and ability to lift and transport 75 pounds
- Experience securing cloud-based solutions, specifically Microsoft M365 and Azure environments
